Computing history happening right here folks; the UI windowing system being reborn for the LLM meets humans era of software
A quick demo of floating panes in Rex, some of their features, and how I use them in my daily workflow. I think our implementation of floating panes looks great and feels great and I think you'll love it! These are also all scriptable and API driven, too, of course!

A school left in neglect. Garbage dumped where children once learned. That was the starting point for our partner community school at Government English and Tamil Medium Higher Primary School, in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru. We came in, rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Today, children and their laughter are coming back. Many of them come from families of daily wage workers, auto drivers and domestic workers. Many carry more than any child should. For them, school is more than a place to learn maths and English. It is a safe place. A place where a glass of milk is waiting, where someone notices when they walk in, where they get to simply be children. That is the work of the teachers and staff who show up every day, not only as educators but as caregivers and nurturers. We’ve come to believe that education leadership is, at its heart, about creating the conditions for a childhood. Everything else grows from there. This community collaboration, along with everything else we do at Inventure is in the running for the World's Best School Prize, and your vote can help bring this story, and these children, the recognition they deserve. Vote here: vote.worldsbestschool.org/pu… Thank you. #CarpeDiem @noorainee @T4EduC

Structural barriers to investments and exists; great summary for YC Continuity fund's former chief; and now own VC. (see also: FEMA, EDF, GST ITC, and what not ongoing compliance red tape for India's MSMSEs)

I know your point is about Indian VCs vs. US VCs. I am a US based VC that has invested in several Indian startups and founders from India are exceptionally good (as good as the ones in the US). But there are fundamental structural problems of investing in India. At exit, we need to sell shares, pay 12.5% tax, absorb FX losses and are subject to a few mutual funds setting the price which all corresponds easily to at least 30% dilution at exit. M&A is not an option at those valuations. Even if you ignore all the above, just try setting up a bank account and custodian to hold your shares. The operational friction is high. This further strengthens the argument that more of the investment dollars in Indian startups should come from investors based in India.

Excited after a vacation to go #BackToSchool Let’s see how we are doing on #SH35 towards a #BetterBengaluru #OurMobilityOurVoice Last month we met @GBAChiefComm on the Hope Farm - Gunjur stretch and @krishnabgowda between Dommasandra and Varthur, with traffic police present on both occasions. Thank you for directing the agencies and the police to improve road conditions, drainage and traffic flow on SH-35. Our students, families and faculty hope the coming school break will be used to advance this work. We look forward to restoring normal school hours, which had to be reduced because of traffic conditions. Lost learning time and exhausting commutes affect our children’s learning, growth and development, and the wellbeing of our whole school community. For faculty, long journeys also mean less time and energy for lesson preparation, supporting students and their own families. Could you please share a brief progress update: • Widening: which stretches are now open? • Drains: connected and functioning? • Asphalting: completed where, and what remains? • Bottlenecks: next steps and timelines? A weekly update would help everyone who shares this road follow the progress. @krishnabgowda @PriyankKharge @GBAChiefComm @blrcitytraffic @wftrps @CPBlr @Jointcptraffic @DCPTrEastBCP @GBA_office @BPACofficial @dcpwhitefield @WFRising @sarjapuraps @SarjapuraRWA @rk_misra @MansoorKhanINC @PCMohanMP @MALimbavali @ArvindLBJP @MLAShivanna

Bangalore twitter, my friends (a married couple, wonderful people with 2 lovely dogs!) are looking for a pet-friendly apartment/house in Indiranagar for 3-4 months starting November. Any leads welcome, please DM. Regular brokers have failed since short stays are challenging, and serviced apartments don't seem to accommodate pets.

SFLC.in’s Statement on eMudhra Private Key Vulnerability SFLC.in is concerned about the wider cybersecurity consequences of the recently discovered security vulnerability relating to eight intermediate certificates issued by the Indian digital certification company, eMudhra. This development prompted @Google, @mozilla and @Cloudflare to block the compromisable certificates. As per Google and Mozilla’s reports, it was found that the private keys linked to the eight affected eMudhra certificates were generated with insufficient randomness. The keys contained severely truncated or trivial key values, with key strength measuring as small as four to eight bits rather than standard cryptographic requirements like RSA-2048 or ECC P-256. This could provide bad actors with ammunition to recover private keys, use them to create fraudulent certificates, impersonate legitimate websites and potentially intercept or modify communications. The incident raises serious questions about the technical safeguards employed to protect India's public key infrastructure. Digital certificates are a foundational component of internet security, as they enable users to verify the identity of websites and establish encrypted connections with online services. This includes services that utilise sensitive personal data like banking platforms, government portals, and other essential digital infrastructure. In fact, the website of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, is currently inaccessible due to the certificate being revoked. The site, available at URL fssai.gov.in/ says the website Peer’s Certificate has been revoked and that “Someone pretending to be the site could try to steal things like credit card info, passwords, or emails.” The website of Higher Education Department, Government of Kerala, remains inaccessible as well. At this moment, a message is being shown stating that the website might be impersonating highereducation.kerala.gov.i…, to steal “your personal and financial information”. Both of these websites were given certificates by eMudhra. When it comes to cybersecurity infrastructure, every response must be systematic, organised, transparent, and rigorous. The security of India's digital ecosystem cannot depend solely on independent researchers discovering critical failures. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) must undertake a close examination of the role played by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) in the country’s public key infrastructure. The CCA, appointed under Section 17 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, is responsible for regulating licensed Certifying Authorities within the statutory framework. In light of the incident, SFLC.in calls upon the CCA, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), CERT-In, and other relevant authorities to take the following steps. 1. Initiate an independent investigation into the reported compromise, as well as the key generation of other licenses CAs. The investigation should examine compliance with Sections 18, 30 and 31 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the applicable provisions of the Information Technology (Certifying Authorities) Rules, 2000. Failure to meet the prescribed criteria should result in revocation of the Certifying Authority’s license. 2. Strengthen technical audits of Certifying Authorities. Under the CCA's audit criteria, external audits are conducted annually and internal audits every six months. The audits, under CCA’s PKI framework, explicitly looks at whether the CA "maintains controls to provide reasonable assurance that CA key pairs are generated in accordance with industry standards." If the reported weaknesses persisted undetected for an extended period despite the audits, the CCA should review the effectiveness of existing audits under the applicable Certifying Authorities Rules and its Audit Criteria for Certifying Authorities. It must be established whether these audit mechanisms adequately tested cryptographic key generation, key management, certificate issuance, and revocation. The audits should include independent and automated verification of cryptographic key strength, randomness, and key-generation procedures. 3. Improve certificate transparency and independent monitoring. The CCA already maintains a framework of technical requirements, including its Guidelines for Issuance of SSL Certificates, X.509 Certificate Policy for India PKI, and Audit Criteria for Certifying Authorities. These frameworks address certificate management, key management, and technical security controls. 4. Issue actionable mitigation guidance to affected institutions. The CCA and CERT-In should coordinate with affected Certifying Authorities, browsers, and infrastructure providers to communicate actionable guidance to government departments, financial institutions, service providers, and other organisations that may rely on affected certificates. CCA should assess whether their implementation and independent verification are sufficient to detect cryptographic weaknesses of the kind reported in the eMudhra incident. @ccaindiapki @GoI_MeitY @IndianCERT @eMudhra @chandrarsrikant @AihikS @aseemmanchanda @ni5arga @seemay @tanishka_s2 @svaradarajan @tajmahalfoxtrot @IFEX @APC_News @theGNI @Dennis__Jackson

Why do South Asians get type 2 diabetes at much lower body weights? The answer is in their fat cells. These are fat cells from two young men with the same BMI. The South Asian man's are on the left. The white man's are on the right. At the same BMI as white Europeans, South Asians carry more body fat, bigger fat cells, more liver fat, and higher insulin. Here is what the studies show. 1. Same BMI, much bigger fat cells. In 29 South Asian and 18 white men, average age 27, BMI was 24 vs 23. Body fat was 22% vs 15%. The average belly fat cell was 3,491 vs 1,648 µm² in cross section. Treating the cells as spheres, that is about 3 times the volume of fat per cell on average. The samples in the image show an even larger difference. The larger the fat cells, the worse the insulin resistance. Visceral fat was the same in both groups. 2. Matched for age and BMI, still more insulin. Asian Indians matched to white adults had similar fasting glucose but higher fasting insulin, and they cleared glucose about 40% less well on a clamp test (4.7 vs 7.5 mg/kg/min). 3. Fat cell size explains much of the insulin gap. After adjusting for age, sex and BMI, South Asians had larger fat cells, liver fat of 9.9% vs 2.5%, and higher fasting insulin. Adjusting for fat cell size cut the insulin difference in half. 4. Lean and young. Among 482 lean young adults, insulin resistance was 2 to 3 times more common in Asian Indians than in any other group. The men had about twice the liver fat of white men. 5. It starts in childhood. South Asian children aged 8 to 11 in Britain were not heavier than white children, but their fasting insulin was 53% higher, with similar blood glucose. My view: fat cells can only store so much. When they are full, they become insulin resistant and release more fat into the blood, and that fat ends up in the liver and muscle. Insulin rises to compensate. South Asians appear to reach that limit at a lower body weight. For a South Asian person, a normal BMI does not mean normal metabolism. Fasting insulin, waist size and liver fat say more than weight.

Any talk in Delhi of reforming the whole CCA premise of a required-by-law CA root that’s the only legally acceptable signature ecosystem for Indian private citizens and private businesses? #eMudhra
