Deaf people can surgerize! My scrub is wearing a wireless microphone (see hockey puck under mask).

Hey #audpeeps anyone have a great Paediatric Audiology textbook they teach with/would recommend? Want to update a rather dated 2014 Northern & Downs text for a Paed audiology subject for teachers of the deaf…Looks like there’s some good alternatives, but not sure where to start!

Hey #DeafTwitter don’t know if ppl know that if you’re outside US & want to access new iOS16 live captions(beta) just change language default to English(US) & it will then show in accessibility options. Captions FaceTime,in App vids, podcasts, live speech! cultofmac.com/780891/how-to-…

Sitting here with typical deaf conundrum. Unaided I’ll blissfully sleep thru street noise & fire alarms, aided I can hear sounds down the block but not what they are. Just me or do others also spend time peering out windows meerkatlike trying to work them out?! 🤷‍♀️🦻#DeafTwitter

Congrats @ambideafkid! I love that there are more and more deaf & hard of hearing audiologists joining the profession. Increasing the opportunities for Audiology services to be designed & delivered BY & not just TO deaf and hard of hearing people is exciting!
Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Audiology. I’m not the first Deaf audiologist but I’m also not the last. We need more deafies in Audiology and, that, I can’t wait to see.

I love how I speak to my mum from the other side of our house & she just texts me in reply… no time wasted with “What? Wait, I’ll come find you…” #efficientparentofdeaf!

Ditto… 😊
I entered 2022 sick with covid & exhausted. But then I witnessed: 1.Dylan Alcott 1st person with disability named Oz of the Year 2.Grace Tame reminding the nation women WILL be heard & smile IF we want to 3.Indigenous legend Ash Barty win #AustralianOpen Soul replenished🤩❤️💪🏽
So happy Paralympian Dylan Alcott was named 2022 Australian of the Year. But also blown away that it’s 1st time in its 62 year history that it has gone to a person with disability. Here’s to not hiding people w disabilities, or ignoring their achievements. abc.net.au/news/2022-01-25/2…

I’ve noticed lately in routine medical &allied health appts where I have to bring up my hearing bc of masks I’m being asked lots of Qs. “What caused that? When did it start?” I appreciate people being interested in deafness but it feels invasive always having to share details 1/2 – at Sydney, New South Wales

2/2 It’s exhausting dealing w masks & bringing up my hearing in every new conversation. If you’re health prof treating a d/hh patient please focus on making the appt accessible & not on making them share personal info unrelated to presenting issue. Its usually in their file anyway. – at Sydney, New South Wales

The internet wouldn’t exist without the talents of disabled people. Vint Cerf is a VP at Google & one of the Fathers of the Internet. He’s also deaf. I showed him my braille tech when we met in 2019, & this year we shared a stage. @vgcerf thanks for advocating for accessibility!

Just a memo: When Deaf/HH people decline/don’t ask for an accommodation its not proof that they “can hear well enough”.When we refuse accomms its rarely because we can hear ok, its usually because we don’t feel safe or comfortable to be singled out as different/needing access 1/2 – at Sydney, New South Wales

2/2 Ensure access is always just there, activate captions on zoom, use a mic, turn on your camera when talking. I always appreciate colleagues & friends taking the time before an event/meeting to ask me how to turn captions on etc. It also benefits so many others as well… – at Sydney, New South Wales
