All asset classes are moving onchain. Tokenized stocks and stablecoins (which are really just tokenized fiat currency) are growing fast, with more to come. We'll continue updating the financial system.

On Monday, @Bitwise filed our comment letter on the SEC’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets. Our ask: a practical framework for a question Bitwise has wrestled with for nearly a decade. How do we determine whether a crypto asset is a security or is subject to an investment contract? Bitwise evaluates crypto assets every day. We ask: What do they do? How were they created? Can we put them into our products? For years, answering that last question has required analysis with limited information and uncertain standards. This letter draws on over five years of engaging with the SEC Staff on these issues. We’ve long wanted a framework a company can actually apply without commissioning a bespoke Howey analysis for every crypto asset. Regulation Crypto gives us an opportunity to get there. The proposal focuses on issuers. Our letter proposes changes to make it work for companies like Bitwise that use crypto assets as the building blocks of investment products. We make two principal requests: 1. A standard outsiders can apply to determine when a crypto asset is no longer subject to an investment contract, based on publicly available information. We can evaluate what an issuer promised, what it has done and what activities continue. We cannot verify its private intentions. 2. Clear rules for when non-issuers may rely on an issuer’s Form TR, how to make a determination when no Form TR exists, and what facts would make reliance unreasonable. These questions shape what we can build for investors. This letter puts years of experience to work advocating for rules that give us greater certainty and room to build. The beauty of DCA is that you don't need timing, just consistency. At $50/week over the last 4 years (209 weeks), you end up with $18,087 worth of BTC vs. $15,278 of SPY. What's crazier is that bitcoin:native is ~35% off from all-time highs.

1) A lot of people ask me how exactly Bitcoin can change the world Sometimes I say “Bitcoin can fix this” or “Bitcoin will make the world a better place” But to many, it’s unclear how any of that will actually happen So here’s my full vision for the world on Bitcoin 🧵

Since late June, Bitcoin miners and HPC converts have moved more closely with CoreWeave, even despite Bitcoin's ~40% rally from its lows. Why? 1) Many of these miners continue to sell down their BTC. 2) Many miners continue to borrow to build data centres Watch for widening CDS spreads, "force majeure's", rent cuts with AI tenants, or lease terminations.

FWIW - 105 physical qubits still implies 13 doublings from here to reach 500k qubits… So, at the very least 13 years to reach QDay assuming Neven‘s Law… Nothingburger in my view.
GOOGLE ANNOUNCES MAJOR QUANTUM COMPUTING BREAKTHROUGH WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR BITCOIN SECURITY Google Quantum AI researchers have achieved 99.99% logical fidelity in producing “magic states” on the company’s 105-qubit Willow processor, reducing errors by 40x. The breakthrough, published in Science, addresses one of the biggest engineering bottlenecks preventing quantum computers from scaling to the point where they could threaten Bitcoin’s cryptography. Earlier this year, Google published research suggesting that breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography could require fewer than 500,000 physical qubits, roughly 20x fewer than previous estimates. That was an algorithmic breakthrough, demonstrating how an attack could theoretically be performed with fewer resources. Today’s announcement represents a complementary hardware breakthrough, demonstrating progress toward making the necessary quantum operations reliable and less resource-intensive. While this does not mean Bitcoin’s cryptography can be broken today, it represents another significant step toward cryptographically relevant quantum computers. The timeline for a potential quantum threat to Bitcoin remains uncertain, but the case for accelerating Bitcoin’s transition toward quantum-resistant cryptography continues to strengthen.

As more of the world comes onchain via tokenized stocks, here are three things I am thinking about from a securities law perspective. All three are live questions in the SEC’s proposed transfer agent rules (Release 34-106246, comments due November 3), the first substantive rewrite of rules written in the late 1970s, when owning stock meant holding a paper certificate. TLDR: I think this is positive. If you are building here, this is the moment to read the SEC’s 175 questions in the proposed rule and give them your answers. 🧵

NEAR is building at the intersection of two problems for crypto and AI. Crypto has a usability problem. Hundreds of blockchains each have their own assets and rules, and moving money between them can be costly and risky. AI has a centralization problem. A handful of companies control the most powerful models and the data we hand them. New research from @Matt_Hougan and @RasterlyRock lays out why @NEARProtocol matters for AI agents, cross-chain trading, and the next wave of crypto adoption.
