Nearly the entire population of Gaza may have had their personal data exposed in a breach of @WFP's registration system on 14 May 2026.
Names, ID numbers, locations, health info, family details. And that is only what WFP has confirmed.
The full extent remains unknown. 🧵
What needs to change is not complicated.
Data minimisation. No partnerships with companies whose business is military targeting. Full transparency on who holds beneficiary data.
The absence of these measures is a failure of will, not capacity. /8
Palestinians who registered for food were owed one assurance. That trusting a humanitarian agency with their data would not cost them their lives.
In Gaza, that assurance was broken.
