New: Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General.
The US has encouraged Orbán to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea of a joint U.S.-Russia-China candidacy.

Syria’s Education Ministry has altered textbook images, adding veils and niqabs on women, erasing girls from some sections and removing photos of men dancing. The changes have sparked consternation and concern among Syrians who, after 15 years of war and decades of dictatorship, want and deserve an inclusive future and not one where half the population is slowly erased in schools and universities.

Israel votes Tuesday. The final weekend has been dominated by one interview: PM Benjamin Netanyahu told Channel 10 on Friday that Israel should prepare for sanctions, including on its banks, and build a "bypass economy," confirming he meant cryptocurrency. #IsraelElections

Naftali Bennett said the plan would put Israel in the company of Iran, North Korea and Russia; Yair Lapid said Netanyahu was conceding sanctions would follow his re-election. Netanyahu's pitch Sunday: two more years alongside Trump to topple Iran's regime.
Netanyahu has long argued that falling US support reflects American domestic politics rather than his policies.
Tuesday's question: which bloc reaches 61 of 120 seats. #IsraelElections

Morocco's new head of government @ChefGov_ma , Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, won her investiture vote in the House of Representatives on Thursday, 204–127. The debate produced an unusually sharp exchange between her party, PAM, and the Islamist opposition PJD. Notes 🧵
The PJD's side: group leader Driss El Azami El Idrissi said she had not answered his critique of the programme – including the 5% growth and one-million-jobs targets – and accused her of replying in partisan terms, urging her to move past a "PJD syndrome."
Observation: less than a month in, El Mansouri has chosen to confront the religious argument directly rather than sidestep it. Whether that translates into policy – family-code reform, inheritance etc..– is the open question. #Morocco
