Version 4.13 of #syslog_ng is expected to be released in the coming weeks. There are #fixes and #enhancements even in the core of syslog-ng. #Testing of the latest nightly builds is much appreciated.

Up until version 4.12, when #syslog_ng ran into an error jumping to a saved #systemd #journal position, it read the journal from the beginning. With the latest syslog-ng version, you can configure what happens in case of such an error.

Does #syslog_ng support the latest #OpenSearch version? I suspected that the answer was yes, but I gave it a try anyway. And as expected, starting to use OpenSearch 3.9 with syslog-ng is a smooth experience.

One of the core dependencies of #syslog_ng is the #ivykis library. We have a few #FreeBSD specific fixes in our ivykis fork, however the syslog-ng port uses ivykis from ports instead of the bundled version. I am now working on making it selectable. #Testing and help are welcome.

My @turris_cz Omnia #Linux #router is 10 years old. It not just works fine, but still receives regular software updates. Today's update also installs the latest #syslog_ng:
• Updated package syslog-ng from version 4.11.0-r1 to version 4.12.0-r1

Two years ago, I created a #syslog_ng repo for #AmazonLinux 2023. As I received zero feedback, I left it alone until last week. The repo is now updated to the latest version of syslog-ng: 4.12.

Recently, I heard complaints within the #syslog_ng community that using #Elasticsearch is not that easy anymore. I installed Elasticsearch 9.5 with #Kibana to verify these claims. Read more at: syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

Most of August, I was on #vacation, but now I’m back and I try catching up on the #syslog_ng events of the past weeks. Currently, we are #fixing issues and #reviewing contributions, but we also discussed scaling back our efforts on syslog-ng #Java support.

Good news for those reading my #syslog_ng #openssl 4.0 blog at the original publication date: version 4.12 of syslog-ng is now available, and openssl 4.0 is supported without backporting patches:

For many years, I didn’t think that #Tor could be useful for me. However, I’ve recently found a Gist on #GitHub that describes how you can use it to #harden #syslog_ng on #FreeBSD. And while I have yet to try it, at least now I have a reason to test Tor.

We are removing #HDFS support from #syslog_ng, the last driver written in #Java. As a #scream test, I started to disable Java support in syslog-ng on @openSUSE and @fedora. Let us know, if you use the Java destination with your own code!

Recently I was asked if #syslog_ng supports #Ubuntu 26.04 (Ubuntu Resolute).
Yes, and with the arrival of the syslog-ng 4.12.0 release we also provide ready-to-use packages for it. The release notes mention it, and info is in the #Readme on #GitHub.

For many years, syslog-ng used #Java, where #C libraries were unavailable. However, over the years native C libraries became available for #Elasticsearch and #Kafka, and #HDFS practically disappeared. As a “#scream #test”, I am going to disable Java support in all of my syslog-ng packages.
