Simon Jeffery and his team at @HarperAdamsUni map and assess ecosystem services and evaluate their their economic value. They quantifying the contribution of soil health to these services - and determine the role of soil biodiversity four ecosystem services.
Throwback to our Open Field Day in Czechia in June!
Our partners met with Farmers to discuss how they can determine the condition of their soil and to give them tailored recommendations about what they can do to improve soil biodiversity.

How can we measure if a soil is biologically healthy?
The team around @cdmMulder is developing cost-effect indicators for soil biodiversity that can be used to monitor to soil health across Europe.
What is your favourite indicator for soil biodiversity?

SOB4ES on tour!
Last week, Olaf Schmidt from @ucddublin spoke to many of the 250,000 visitors about the importance of soil health, how to protect soil biodiversity and the difference that taking care of our soils can make.

Soil is having a moment. 🌱
And honestly, it’s about time. From storing carbon and supporting biodiversity to producing our food, healthy soils are going to play a huge role in Europe’s future.

Ecosystems inspire ✨
🌱 Soils provide a variety of cultural ecosystem services to us, like the benefits derived from simply interacting with nature, artistic inspiration, or a sense of place and heritage.
@bioserviceseu
🌾 Soils are used to grow crops, mushrooms, and graze livestock on pastures.
🌱 But that's not all! Provisioning ecosystem services describe the products, materials and resources coming from nature that form the basis of human life.
@bioserviceseu
⚖️ Regulating ecosystem services generally do not have a direct, obvious market price. But their impact is real.
⛈️ When these processes get out of control, the damage to humans can be more than financial.
@bioserviceseu
🌱Did you know that soils provide a big part of supporting ecosystem services? These are the foundational processes, that maintain the conditions for all other ecosystem services.
🌍Two major ones, nutrient cycling and soil biodiversity, are provided by soils!
@bioserviceseu
🌱 Together with @bioserviceseu, we try to understand how we can integrate healthy soil biodiversity for the benefit of our ecosystems and the services we all rely on.
But what are ecosystem services? Follow us, as we dive into the different types of services.
🌦️ Soil scientists are going to go into the field come rain or shine
🌱 At the occasion of the progress meeting in Prague, the SOB4ES consortium spend a day with farmers in the Czech countryside.
