While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected. Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions. Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent. But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models? We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem. Read the full report: cohere.com/blog/concerning-b…

Scout’s hardest eval: explain the Datadog bill
Meet Scout 1.0, our first AI model built for investigating production incidents. Scout matches frontier-model investigation quality at a fraction of the cost, which makes it practical to investigate more issues, earlier. We trained Scout on realistic simulations built from real-world incidents and production telemetry, using reinforcement learning to reward accurate root causes backed by evidence. Cohere is absolutely thrilled to welcome Aisle to Cohere. Aisle is the state-of-the-art in defensive cyber, having found 200+ High/Critical CVEs in critical software like curl, FFmpeg, FreeBSD, Wireshark. Some thoughts below on why this is significant.. cohere.com/blog/cohere-and-a…

Satya is spot on. The interesting engineering problem isn’t just making models behave, it’s building systems that don’t need to trust them in the first place. We’re working on some pretty fun problems @cohere. From detecting intent drift across long-running agent sessions, correlating eBPF runtime telemetry with agent actions, capability-scoped identities and enforcing security boundaries below the harness. Lots of interesting work at the intersection of systems engineering, security, and AI. We’re hiring engineers who want to build this stuff :)

The coolest orbital animation I've seen of Artemis 2 Just really shows you how far away they're flying today and also how precise they need to be to go to the moon

Don’t cry over bagged milk. This staple of Canadian households is officially being phased out. Gone are the days of having to worry about cutting the right sized hole, dirty pitchers and floppy bags. 🥛💔 #AprilFools
