When you think about it Sam Altman is the only person currently alive able to unite people all over the world... in hating him and AI.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman thinks it's "terrible" for people to have RAM in their computers rather than in a data center, as the scarcity of memory caused by the AI boom continues to drive up costs. bit.ly/47LJ09d

This is insanely malicious, and some dumbasses are defending him
Lets make this clear
If any one of these companies hoards the worlds compute, they will become Compute Barons
Your $20 sub will become $2000, for every application beyond ai.
You wont be able to game, browse the web, anything
Sam literally means he wants it ALL
The only way forward are local compute models that are good at a few things rather than trying to be great at everything
Never give up your sovereignty
don't get me wrong, i love angel of darkness and see what it was supposed to be - it shines through the cracks, but the game we got was a frankenstein's monster of a half story, game mechanics that needed a rethink and controls that are still questionable to this day
depending on who you ask, it's all downhill from here
chronicles - a rush job to squeeze one last ps1 tomb raider out
angel of darkness - an incomplete bugfest, even in the patched remaster
i honestly don't mind them, but you have to acknowledge their warts

We've got an impotent, rudderless leader who's stating he's happy to reverse Brexit, at a time where various EU adherents seem to be USSRing their home politics, openly, seizing power if they need, and silencing their opposition.
What do you call a civil war without borders?

The only reason the UK was allowed a referendum on EU membership was because the elite were so sure we'd never want to leave.
They saw it as an opportunity to "shut up the noisy minority once and for all" [ukip]
They were wrong, it cost the PM his job. The EU will never allow for that again.

lol my lawn mower is only used 1x a week. Should I rent one from OpenAI instead?
Also, who caused the DRAM shortage? It wasn't consumers...
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

oh, you think you're edgy?
have you ever gone into an artisan coffee shop and asked for a "big milky"?
didn't think so.
Your government has made employing people more costly for businesses, so the ones that were already operating on narrow margins, like Poundland, probably had that margin wiped out.
It's great you're standing with workers, but how about actually helping them for a change?
Poundland has filed to enter administration, putting 11,000 jobs at risk just weeks before Christmas, including here in Brixton.
I stand with Poundland workers and @UsdawUnion.
The owners must engage with workers and ministers, exploring every option to save jobs and shops.
I don't own or run a business but even I understand the dynamics at play here.
So imagine how completely out of touch you have to be being in a government that's making employing people costlier, and then being shocked that there are job losses because businesses are failing.
