Interstellar is now live.
The last few weeks, we broke down what was changing under the hood.
Today, those improvements are live: greater EVM compatibility, more modern tooling for builders, and stronger foundations for scale.
The protocol gets better when builders have less infrastructure to fight.
Over the last two days we've covered the new EVM opcodes and the cryptographic precompiles landing with VIP-255.
Today, part three, the finale: the core protocol improvements sitting underneath both.
Part 3: Interstellar Explained - Core Protocol Improvements
EIP-2935 - historical block hashes from state: Block hashes for the most recent 8,191 blocks served through a contract, using Ethereum's exact calling convention.
Human version: VeChainThor always had the receipts, filed in its own system. This puts them in the drawer Ethereum tools already know how to open.
How it changes VeChain: VeChainThor already holds that history in state through the Extension built-in contract, so lookups resolve against Extension and return VeChainThor block IDs rather than Keccak hashes, making this an interface fix rather than new capability.
Long term impact: proof systems and light-client designs written for Ethereum port across without a VeChainThor-specific rewrite.
EIP-7825 - transaction gas limit cap: A hard ceiling of 16,777,216 gas on any single transaction.
Human version: No single transaction gets to hog the whole block any more. Queue etiquette, enforced by the protocol.
How it changes VeChain: Bounding the worst case holds 10-second block times steady when demand spikes, and it matters more here than on a single-clause chain, because a multi-clause transaction can otherwise stretch across most of a block on its own.
Long term impact: predictable block times are what enterprise integrations get procured on, and a bounded worst case is what allows capacity to rise later without the tail risk rising with it.
EIP-7934 - block size limit: A ceiling of 8 MiB on the encoded block.
Human version: A limit on how fat a block is allowed to get. Keeps running a node in normal-computer territory rather than data-centre territory.
How it changes VeChain: Gas accounting alone does not bound how physically large a block can grow, which leaves room to bloat blocks with cheap data and slow propagation across the network, so a byte-level cap closes that gap.
Long term impact: node cost stays flat as usage climbs, and node cost determines how widely validation can be distributed.
For VeChain, this is the layer that keeps the last two parts honest. Cheaper opcodes and native cryptography don't count for much if block times start slipping or running a node gets too expensive for anyone but a data centre.
These three changes are what keep VeChainThor fast, predictable, and decentralised as more builders and more transactions land on it.
For enterprise especially, this is the boring but essential part: predictable block times and stable node costs are the structural guarantees that get a network past procurement in the first place.
That's the whole of VIP-255, eleven EIPs across three parts.
The upgrade goes live at Block Height 25,902,540 on Wed 16 Sep 2026, 11:15:10 UTC (estimated)! Which of the three parts stood out to you most? Tell us below 👇

Yesterday we broke down the new EVM opcodes landing with VIP-255, the protocol upgrade behind Interstellar.
Today, part two: the cryptographic precompiles, three EIPs that change what VeChainThor can prove and verify natively.
Part 2: Interstellar Explained - Cryptographic Precompiles
EIP-2537 - BLS12-381: Native support for a pairing-friendly curve, the machinery behind signature aggregation and much of the zero-knowledge proof stack.
Human version: Maths that lets you prove you did the thing without showing the receipts. Useful when the receipts are your supplier list.
How it changes VeChain: Reproducing this curve in Solidity is prohibitively expensive, so building it into the protocol brings signature verification and bridging into affordable range, which is what VIP-255 names as the target use.
Long term impact: proving a claim on-chain without publishing the data behind it becomes affordable, which is the exact shape of supply chain and sustainability reporting, where the claim must be auditable and the commercial detail must not be.
EIP-7951 - secp256r1: Native verification of the P-256 curve already built into phones, laptops, hardware keys and the passkey standard.
Human version: Face ID for your wallet. The 12 words scribbled on the back of an envelope stop being the price of entry.
How it changes VeChain: VeChainThor has carried account abstraction and fee delegation for years, so the missing piece at the wallet layer was a signature scheme users already own. With P-256 in the protocol, a wallet can authorise a transaction with a fingerprint or a face scan.
Long term impact: the most direct onboarding change in the set, and for enterprise it maps onto the FIDO2 credentials corporate IT already issues and audits.
EIP-7823 and EIP-7883 - MODEXP: A pair of corrections to the modular exponentiation function: inputs capped at 1024 bytes, and gas repriced to a minimum of 500 with a multiplier of 16.
Human version: The chain's priciest calculation has been running at a discount, with no limit on order size. Both fixed, the unglamorous housekeeping that stops a single customer ordering the kitchen out of business.
How it changes VeChain: VeChainThor has been accepting unlimited input sizes while undercharging for the computation it performs, a combination that limits how far capacity can safely be raised. Capping and repricing clears that constraint.
Long term impact: correct pricing on the network's most expensive precompile is what lets throughput rise later without opening a cheap attack path alongside it. For VeChain, this is where alignment with Ethereum's EVM turns into something a customer can actually feel: cheaper verification, easier bridging, and a login that finally matches how people already use their phones.
For enterprise, sustainability, and agentic commerce use cases especially, being able to prove a claim without exposing the data behind it is becoming one of the most valuable things a chain can offer.
Tomorrow, in part three, we'll close out VIP-255 with the core protocol changes underneath both the opcodes and the precompiles.
Which of these unlocks matters most to you, the sustainability angle or the passkey one? Tell us below!

'Web3 for Better' is a way of life, not just a tagline.
With B3MO Quests, we're gamifying sustainable impact, letting you challenge friends and family to have positive impact, as you race to claim a $B3TR powered prize pool!
All details below, including how to get started 👇
Hey team, it’s official: B3MO is the challenge captain now!
B3MO quests are officially live, letting you throw down the gauntlet to family and friends, powered by the VeBetter ecosystem.
What could be more awesome than gamifying being sustainable, and earning crypto (paid in $B3TR) as you go?
Best of all, everything is on-chain, automated, and funded by the people who set them up!
The first challenger is none other than VeChain boss, Mr Sunny Lu!
Curious how you can start battling VeFam for $B3TR prizes?
B3MO Quests: How to
In B3MO quests, there are two main challenge types, Sponsored and Bet, with three ways to win.
B3MO Quests are built on one of 2 win conditions:
'Max Actions' - the full prize pool goes to whoever racks up the most actions by close. One winner takes the whole pot.
'Split Win' - prize pools are split among a pool of winners once conditions are met. The Quest creator sets an action target and number of winners. The goal is to get to the target before time runs out. Everyone who did (up until the winner limit) earns from the pool!
The Quest creator funds the pot, participants are free to join without paying any $B3TR.
Quest Visibility - Public or Private:
Public Quests are open to anyone from across the crypto-verse - but you'll need the VeWorld wallet to take part. These events are Split Win only, with no cap on participants.
For example, a creator puts up 10,000 B3TR, sets the challenge target at 10 actions, with sets the winner limit at 5. Once B3MO identifies 5 users have hit the target, the event is complete, and each user walks away with 2,000 $B3TR. Uh... Awesome?!
Private Quests are invite-only. The creator picks the win condition (Spilt Win, Max Action), chooses the action total, and sets the participant limit (up to 100 for Max Action, no upper limit in a Split Win challenge).
Bet Challenges
This is where you throw down, with your own $B3TR on the line.
Every participant begins by staking an amount of $B3TR, which all goes into a shared pot managed by B3MO. Whoever finishes with the most actions takes the whole thing!
These challenges are private, and invite-only, with a maximum of 100 participants. That said, B3MO wants you to share your battles very publicly - B3MO loves watching the carnage unfold!
B3MO - Your Faithful Custodian
In terms of rewards management, all the funds are locked in my custody vault - I count every action and handle every payout automatically.
No manual coordination, no third-party oversight needed. Just trusted blockchain tech + AI!
B3MO runs the challenge from open to close.
It's time to battle!
Now you have all the key information, it's time to test your mettle and show the world how to VeBetter. The first Quest is officially live, sponsored by Sunny Lu!
Use VeBetter apps, stack your actions, and put your name at the top of the board.
Steps to join:
- Download VeWorld
- Create a wallet (in seconds)
- Follow the link in the comments and get started!

50,000,000 verified actions on VeBetter.
VeBetter changed where that data sits. Every sustainable action (a reusable cup, a low-carbon meal, a piece of litter collected) is now captured, timestamped and stored on-chain.
Actions feeding verified behavioral data into a single, transparent system. Owned by the person who performed it.
Blockchain doing the one thing no other technology stack can do: turn fragmented, unverifiable human activity into structured, valuable proof.
50 million data points. Every one of them on VeChainThor, a chain built from day 1 to make real-world data verifiable at scale.
