The U.S. goods trade deficit soared 11.6% in Aug. to $132.68 billion, a 17-month high. It's the 4th biggest loss ever, with all three larger losses occurring in early 2025, as importers front-ran tariffs. By his own standard, Trump is the worst U.S. president in history on trade.

Amanda Tapping (born 28 August 1965 in Rochford, Essex) is a British‑born Canadian actress, director, and producer best known for her iconic role as Samantha Carter across Stargate SG‑1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe. After moving to Ontario at age three, she studied drama at the University of Windsor before building a career that blended science‑fiction stardom with behind‑the‑camera leadership.
Across ten seasons of SG‑1, Tapping became one of the franchise’s defining performers, later shifting into producing and starring as Dr. Helen Magnus in Sanctuary, a series notable for its early use of green‑screen and CGI‑driven production. She expanded her creative footprint by directing episodes of Stargate SG‑1, Primeval: New World, Continuum, Dark Matter, and more.
Her career includes multiple Leo Awards, a Saturn Award, and humanitarian recognition such as ACTRA’s Woman of the Year. She also founded Sanctuary for Kids, a charity supporting children in crisis worldwide.

Remind me again how Stargate is not broadly appealing?
A bunch of Canadians produced, wrote, and starred in a military science-fiction show that ran 10 seasons that made the US Air Force look great that was most popular in Europe.

Today, I went to the grocery store and purchased $20 worth of vegetables.
I now have a $20 trade deficit with the grocery store.
They clearly ripped me off.
I will now cut off all trade with the grocery store and let my family starve in order to Make My Household Great Again.

MGM asked me to do exactly what you’re describing after I finished Travelers, just before the pandemic. New and legacy characters working together, facing an entirely new enemy, several years after the events of Continuum. (in which I included a hint of the setting) I wrote a pilot I was proud of and MGM seemed excited, but obviously the timing could not have been worse. I can only presume Amazon didn’t like it. I was 100 percent behind Martin and his team, but that was even more heartbreaking because they got so close.
In other words, we tried. Martin will go on to make something amazing. I may even have another show in me. But I have moved on.
An open message to @AmazonMGMStudio
We want Stargate back.
But more importantly, we want you to understand why we want it back.
There is a concern among many long-time fans that the value of the Stargate franchise is being viewed primarily as its basic premise and brand recognition, rather than the incredible universe that has already been built.
Stargate 1994 movie was just the beginning. A small window. Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe didn't simply tell variations of the same story. Together, they created a vast mythology, established characters, countless worlds, civilisations, technologies, mysteries and decades of history.
That history isn't baggage.
It's the franchise's greatest asset.
We aren't asking you to simply recreate SG-1. We aren't asking for endless nostalgia or a carbon copy of what came before.
We want something new.
Give us new characters. New teams. New worlds. New threats. New mysteries.
But don't throw away the universe that makes those new stories possible.
There is no reason why a new series can't be accessible to someone discovering Stargate for the first time while still respecting the people who have been watching, supporting and talking about this franchise for decades.
In fact, that would be Stargate's greatest strength.
You don't have to choose between new audiences and existing fans.
You can bring people into the franchise by giving them a compelling new story — while rewarding longtime viewers who understand the history behind the universe.
So please don't look at Stargate and see something that needs to be rebooted simply because it's old.
Look at what you've inherited.
Look at the enormous universe that is already there.
And then ask yourselves:
“Where can we take this next?”
That's the Stargate we want.
Not a replacement.
Not an erasure.
A continuation. An expansion. A new chapter in a universe we already love.
Amazon MGM — please listen to the fans.
Don't reboot the universe. Explore it.

The alliance between Canada and Europe is not defined by what we oppose. It is about what we are for: freedom, solidarity, prosperity, sustainability. An alliance strong enough so that no one can dictate our choices.
Europe and Canada are each strong. Europe and Canada are even stronger together.

We didn't want a reimagining, inversion or twist. I've always held that in order for a new Stargate to be successful, you must appeal to new fans and old. Ideally, it would be a story that is a direct continuation of what came before in the cleanest way possible as many have suggested, but it's entirely possible that this was attempted (hint hint HIIIIINT) and didn't get anywhere so an alternate approach was taken that would still leave the door open to reintroducing and revisiting characters from the past. NOT reimagined versions of the characters but the actual characters.
