I'm not a thread person but, well, Mary Oliver deserves special consideration. I can't remember the first time I read the line "You do not have to be good" from Wild Geese, but I'm guessing I was in college, studying poetry writing.
We were told to be compliant, to apologize, to do as we were told. And here was Mary Oliver, in this sort of matter-of-fact way, telling us the opposite. Telling us, we don't have to get on our knees and repent. That we can love what we love; be who we are.
