People from Ireland are trying to explain to this American lady why Derry had virtually no inward immigration in the 90s and she is actually arguing back with them, Yanks man.
No one said this shit about Derry Girls which was actually was CASTED like that and was not that long ago
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Derry Girls is set during the 1990s, when Northern Ireland was an active warzone and had a 98% white population. Several episodes reference the fact no one wants to come there, or show the girls’ microaggressions to other races/nationalities, such as Chinese and Ukrainian.

Because the show had an anti-colonial undertone. It didn't feel about white people even if it were.

They'd do what right-wingers tried to do to gay people in the 90s

“casted” isn’t a real word + derry, ireland during the troubles is in no way comparable to bristol, england during the 2000s so i fear you may just be stupid

The concept of saying Derry girls is too white when it’s quite literally a historical comedy set in Derry in the 90s during the troubles …. And then comparing it to skins uk like yes two different countries with completely different race statistics and political landscape??

Black Americans are still Americans, this statement isn’t baseless. You still carry the entitlement, ignorance, and lack of self-awareness that characterise American society.

Given everything thats happened, I think it needs to be said crystal clear: Not one single person on the entire planet is exempt from perpetuating oppression just because they themselves are also oppressed.
Be critical of yourselves and those in your own communities.

fundamental misunderstanding of privilege. privilege does not mean "your life is good/better because you are x", it means "being x is not actively making things harder for you". its the same as when poor white people say that white privilege isnt real because their lives are hard
Replying to @denimneverdies
Saying non-queer Black people have 'cishet privilege' completely misses how intersectionality works. u can't isolate sexuality from race. A straight, cis Black person still deals with systemic racism, police brutality, and socio-economic barriers. You gotta be trolling

Americans are immune to propoganda, they just on average think 21% of Americans are trans and 27% are Muslim for no real reason
