Shortness of breath that worsens when lying flat or entering a swimming pool may be a clue to diaphragm paralysis.
⚪️At Baylor College of Medicine Lung Institute, evaluation includes diaphragm imaging, a fluoroscopic SNIFF test, and updated pulmonary function testing in both upright and supine positions.
⚪️For selected patients with persistent symptoms, diaphragm plication lowers and stabilizes the weakened diaphragm, creating a tight surface for the lung to expand against while the chest wall expands. Treatment timing matters—and each plan should account for the possibility of nerve recovery.
