First blog post in a longg time. Felt important to re-orient around what it means to be a senior engineer in the era of agentic development and what still holds true: first principles thinking. sunilsadasivan.com/writing/f… Inspired by / response to @threepointone's recent post.
new post: the senior engineer death spiral sunilpai.dev/posts/the-senio… a friend just started a big job and asked for some advice. so I braindumped a monologue about a super common failure mode I see with engineers and posted it here, hope it helps whoever it can.

Software's new moat: whoever wakes up at 3am bumping dependencies and rotating API keys.

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

This moment is meant for those who put the expertise in a box and let curiosity roam free. Great catching up with @hnshah - a mentor of mine since my first startup back in 2011… still remember pitching him as a 👶🏾 24 yo in South Bay.
Ramen with @petergyang in San Mateo. Then caught up with @sunils34 in South Park. With Peter, we got into open source and finding people worth building with. Sunil and I dove into AI adoption, skills, agents, and where software is headed. I love spending time with OG engineers who are deeply AI-pilled. These are the builders who've been building software for so many years and are still this curious about what's next. That's the energy I want more of.

In June, @SamAsante and I launched Typeahead, the first product from our new company. Today we're releasing our next Mac app. It's called Beam, and we're live on Product Hunt. I've got Macs all over my house doing different work. Some run agents and local models. Others handle builds. When I want to use one app on another Mac, I usually end up navigating a whole second desktop through Screen Sharing. Beam brings that app's window onto the Mac I'm using. It gets its own Dock icon and shows up in ⌘Tab. I can type into it and resize it while everything keeps running on the other Mac. Sam has put a lot of care into making this feel natural. The video shows it better than I can explain it. Live on Product Hunt → producthunt.com/products/bea…

It hit me this morning we will never need to write a cron expression either... 😮
We eliminated the need to ever write regex again and just… moved on.

Haven’t gotten time the last couple of weeks to really push on this with Jevernetes 😭 But combining System One (is there a problem?) and System Two (what is prob?) models is in theory a way to make significant automated SRE progress 🤞 Exciting to see this start taking shape.
SREGym's blog post on using Jev to troubleshoot incidents is a perfect example of intelligent graph traversal. A lot of debugging an incident is just following the bread crumb trail. sregym.com/blog/jev-driven-s…
