Part of what American open education tries to protect is this impulse — the right to question, to respond in your own way, to treat “what do you think?” as more important than the official answer.
Chinese education tends to put order and shared rules first. Questioning usually happens inside the boundaries, not by standing directly in front of them.
The photo doesn’t declare a winner. It simply makes one possibility very clear: sometimes a person has only a flower, and still stands in front of the guns.
Should education mainly teach children how to live inside the rules, or also how to question the rules when it matters?
