she is satisfied with this, and then sits on the ground next to him, laying out the coloring book and positioning it so he can color on the page next to her own. her tongue pokes out in concentration, trying to keep all the colors in the lines.
she looks at the ground, poking at the sandy dirt in the patch. "he knows i'm here," she says, though it's not... entirely honest. he knows she's *nearby.* maybe just... less nearby than he thinks. she got bored sitting in the office while her daddy and doctor shepherd talked!
she frowns. "do you want to color? coloring makes me feel better."
before he can answer, she's walking back to the desk, climbing up the chair to grab her coloring book and crayons. she walks back with her prizes with all the severity of a storm, sitting down next to him and +
she nods, taking the advice under deeply serious advisement. "i will let him know."
she blinks, squinting a little, and then frowns. "you're still sad. did something happen?"
she shakes her head, working on her second loth-cat. "he's not a doctor like miss doctor shepherd. sometimes he helps her out at the clinic, but they always give me a job, too. i like sorting flimsis."
she nods, black-blue curls bobbing as she does around her little round face. "mhm. she gives me a lollipop after our checkups and tells me to put lotion on my scutes. she cares a lot about me and daddy." she lifts her arm, pats her scaly elbow.
her nose wrinkles further. "i don't think she's ticklish. miss doctor shepherd is really serious."
she tries to imagine tickling doctor shepherd's sides, and shakes her head. sure, she laughs when her daddy talks to her, but he can make anyone laugh.
she squints, staring at them for a long moment, and then nods once, decisive. they won't hurt her. they feel kind. "my name is lily. my daddy is gus." she points to the clinic. "he's in there right now."
she brightens and nods, curls bouncing. "mhm! my daddy says i got my mama's eyes." her nose wrinkles. "but my eyes are the same color as his, so i don't know. he says mama's eyes are blue."
she lets go of the lollipop, folding her hands in front of her in the poof of her dress.+
she pokes at the dirt a little more, looking up when he takes off his helmet. she likes his face better than the flat helmet. his eyes are nice.
"if it's a secret, she's prolly keeping it for a reason," she intones, though her nose wrinkles.
"daddy's in the office," she says softly. she looks up at his helmet, then back down at her drawing. "he's talking to my doctor, and then he'll be back."
maybe it can have a friend, too. she starts on making another, smaller tooka next to it.
a little whisker here, and then some clawed toes...
she looks up--and stiffens a little, chewing at her lip, before looking back down at the ground. just behave, lily. they won't know anything's weird unless you tell 'em. that's what daddy says, after all.
she goes back to +
[ another moment, and then she's giving a little curl to the cat's tail with her finger, pulling it away and wiping the dirt off on her poofy dress. only then does she look up, blinking at the stranger. ]
hello.
