This is the problem with AI.
With how accessible the tech is, you now have to expect the worst outcomes within the limits of the AI capabilities.
You can bet there will be at least one guy among billions of people, who will try to ruin it for everybody else.
And while the example below is very localized and benign, with enough attention, anything could be exploited.
this is exactly why i’m getting reluctant sharing gen art WIPs now.
context: 1+ year working on this sharing, testing, iterating, building the whole system, then you wake up to a vibe-coded a clone, no DM/ask/nothing. The "spending a year to build something takes far too long these days" reply illustrates the whole problem here. the model didn't take a year because it didn't have to since i already did the hard parts, you copied the decisions. following the thought, if anyone can rebuild anything in 20m then the only thing left that's worth anything is the vision. and that's exactly what's being taken.
don't get me wrong: i'm pro AI. and i'm from deep ic. i've made memes, remixed stuff, riffed on internet culture forever, people who follow me know. that's not the issue here. the issue is taking an artist's unreleased work and shipping your copy first. that's stealing food from my mouth, and that's where i draw the line.
forget IP law for a sec. given you have a soul, you don't need a lawyer to know what's wrong. one DM like "hey mind if i try a version of this?" that's all it takes. again: moral. and the cost isn't just mine, been having these talks with lots of artists friends for the past months. so now every artist has to wonder if sharing process = handing out free blueprints. and that kills the best part of this place. not the internet i've lived for and want to build for.
back to creating. and now you know why i'm sharing fewer WIPs publicly, at least until i'm at peace with it.

This is actually an insane scenario to be in. Knowing that you have over half a billion sitting in a big pile of trash that you can't do much about, but you know it's there and you will always know that. I do hope it will be found though, that would make hell of a story.
In this new video game, you search for James Howells’ lost Bitcoin hard drive in a trash landfill.
Howells infamously mined about 8,000 bitcoin in 2009, then in threw out the wrong hard drive during a cleanup into the garbage can.
His partner then took the bag to Docksway landfill in Newport, Wales. The coins sat there while the price exploded into hundreds of millions of dollars.
He spent more than a decade asking for permission to excavate, offered to buy the site, and sued. The High Court said no. The city said the trash was theirs. The drive is still under the heap.
Howells never found the key. Can you?
