This is why I always encourage artists to draw what they love. It gives them the courage and excitement to try. It makes learning exciting and feel worth it. Draw your favorite character shamelessly and watch yourself level up faster than ever.

Any time a painting feels scary or impossible, I have a hack I use to get through that feeling. Paint it badly. As many times as possible & as quickly as possible. By the 10th time, you start to realize nothing about the concept is scary enough that you can't at least try.

I've been leaning hard into doing more of what I want specifically with my art and I just want to take a moment to really appreciate the folks who seem to be on board with that. I keep making stuff I love because you guys keep showing up for it. So thank you.

The answer is less about deciding what to create, and just start making something. A scribble, a rip in the paper, a smudge of paint. You'll find something in the uncertainty.

If you go into every drawing with the intention of finding your style, you’ll be rigid, careful and overthink. You won’t let yourself make the necessary mistakes to even recognize what you like and don’t like, which is the very decision making process that develops your style.
i typically only give this advice to newer/younger artists to instill the ethic early on to draw as much as they can. i've found a lot of beginners overfixate on making "their own styles" & it keeps them from drawing more than they could
