Stunned and honored by this rave review in @nytimes.
“Baker’s first book, HOW TO RULE THE WORLD is a rigorous, self-assured, propulsive, at times terrifying portrait of a dweebocracy that ‘sets the agenda for the planet.’”

When I broke the story that imprisoned Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans were secretly forming a new startup to get back into the medical device industry, Evans fought me hard over Holmes’ involvement, saying she was on the outside of it and not an advisor. Which is why it was quite striking when, minutes into You Can See Everything, Fielder captures Holmes making calls about the new startup….

This week on "PST with @EmilyDreyfuss:" We watched 11 hours of Silicon Valley movies, including Nathan Fielder's documentary about Elizabeth Holmes. Listen to the full episode with @tab_delete and @kevinbtruong: sf.news/4elROpK
Very fun conversation about "You Can See Everything," "Musk," and "The Social Reckoning," complete with intense staring and more info about Elizabeth Holmes' partner Billy Evans.
Thanks to @kevinbtruong and @EmilyDreyfuss for the great chat!

We think the report's covert capability benchmarks are too narrow and a poor proxy for evading Anthropic's real monitors.
For example, Anthropic’s offline monitors would have missed Mythos 5’s supply chain attack during recent cyber incidents, despite Anthropic arguing that Mythos 5 is “unlikely to have strong covert capabilities.”
"CoreWeave’s fate has become the bellwether for whether the entire AI build-out can be financed," writes @dakincampbell, "and investors have started betting it can’t."

wow, joel kaplan leaving meta per internal memo
not a household name but about as significant as could be in meta politics land
not lost on me that a midterms wipeout is expected and kaplan was the conservative whisperer at the top

Pub day tomorrow. This book is dear to me. I hope it will find readers to support it. If you're on one of the towns on this tour card, come down and say hello.

Apropos of the Nathan Fielder doc: I still find it so extraordinary that the first words spoken in the HBO documentary about Elizabeth Holmes come from Dan Ariely… the dishonesty researcher who has since been accused of fudging his research…
She had her first child while knowing she was facing a fraud trial that would likely send her to prison and had her second child after she’d already been convicted.
This is her choice! Mothers can be fraudsters too…

We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

Luminar, by the way, *another* company started by a young @Stanford dropout who became a billionaire before he was forced to resign amid ethics complaints and watched the company collapse.
Actually there is something very interesting about Billy Evans. After marrying Holmes he was the head of Special Projects at Luminar Technologies, a LiDAR startup that infamously collaborated with YouTuber Mark Rober last year on autonomy safety tests comparing Luminar’s sensors to Tesla’s FSD, which led to Luminar’s stock pumping and Tesla going down 5% in one day after they published a video where a Tesla Model 3 drove through a solid wall while claiming Tesla FSD (a separate, advanced, paid product) was operating. It was not activated in the video.
Which I didn’t think would be a relevant detail until he talked about reviving Theranos 2.0 with AI and lasers and literally bought the Texas vanity plate “LASERS”.
Luminar Technologies declared bankruptcy almost exactly when filming for You Can See Everything wrapped, after all its deals fell through and its flagship customer (Volvo) pulled out citing a “failure to meet contractual obligations.”
