This is a great opportunity to learn and share strategies for including families in computer science education.
Our next article for #talkcsed on Sept 14th is How Do We Achieve Computer Science for All? Not without Family Engagement by @LindaKekelis! We're excited to have the author join us for our chat next week - you can read the article here: medium.com/stem-next-opportu…

Support access to #cs by doing more than offering activities. Flip the model of giving families resources; instead set up opportunities where families learn from one another on how and where to access #computerscience programs. bit.ly/3jZEXew @LindaKekelis @talkcsed
Since my #CTE2020 keynote on integrating CS/CT into subjects, I recd several requests to share my slides describing a conceptual framework for integration- to understand dimensions for designing curricula, assmnts, teacher prep. Here's my CACM blogpost- teapawt.org/blogCACM/status/129937…

CS ed folks, can anyone suggest research papers that report on learning to code over time, especially following individual cases? @ColleenMLewis's paper is the closest we've found (doi.org/10.1145/2361276.2361…), do you know of others?

Research should inform your teaching -- I read education, parenting, + brain research... Summer is a great time to catch up! Check out this free graphic organizer we developed for @talkcsed -- focused on actionable takeaways from the classroom. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Also, shoutout tweet to @cristinaJgarza and @ltephanysopez who run amazing programs like this and I learned a lot from one summer - how strong the connection between CS and community can be.

#talkcsed I find this to be such a fundamental challenge of teaching CS. The best strategies I've found have been to start the year with things that *no one* has seen before. Give everyone a level playing field with content as much as possible.

A5: How might we empower learners to apply PRIMM to their learning process? How might PRIMM integrate in a highly differentiated / personalised learning environment? PRIMM as a conceptual framework for learners - what might that look like and how to implement? #talkcsed

Linking Q4 and Q3: The normalisation of mistake-making is a big part of building confidence. If you know error-making is part of the expected process, and you can Investigate and Modify to solve your errors, you become more confident. #talkcsed

That's a good point. The reason number talks work is that Ss have to both explain and listen--doing this in pairs seems to be a terrific way to get Ss fully engaged in thinking about the project and process. #talkcsed

#talkcsed I think one of the largest sins in discovery-based pedagogy is letting students pursue & internalize incorrect schema, then having to unlearn & re-teach. Having the ability to choose focused questions & regroup during the Investigate stage can stop this from happening.

This feels like it ties in to the idea of "owning" your mistakes when you live code in front of the class -- normalizing bugs and modeling debugging. I wonder how hard it is to normalize mistakes enough that students feel ok sharing them (esp older Students) #talkCSed

A4: I really like the point that pair programming does not always look and sound the same pair to pair. Quiet does not mean not working together, loud does not mean off task --> I think this is really important outside of CS too #talkcsed

Have you ever heard of "ping pong paired programming"? Student A writes test that fails. Student B gets test to pass and writes test 2 that fails. Back to student A to get test 2 to pass..etc.... Fun way to introduce Test-Driven Development (TDD)

... especially if I have some of my stronger women in STEM pair with younger students who are curious and showing interest. That personal invitation from someone who looks like you actively participating in Computer Science is huge for generating student interest. #talkcsed
