I genuinely feel so sorry for Michael Carrick, and I think a lot of the anger being directed towards him is completely misplaced. Has he been good enough? No. Has he made mistakes? Absolutely. But what the fuck was he supposed to do with the absolute mess he’s been handed? He desperately needed defensive reinforcements. Everyone could see it. Instead, we’re now playing a CENTRE BACK at right back and a RIGHT BACK at left-back because the people running this football club couldn’t be bothered to build a properly balanced squad. Carrick hasn’t helped himself with certain decisions, but he’s been set up to fail by people who will conveniently escape all responsibility when he’s inevitably sacked. Michael Carrick is a Manchester United legend. Someone who genuinely loves this football club. He’s stepped into an absolute shitshow, tried his best to steady the ship and will now likely have his reputation dragged through the mud because of the incompetence above him. Meanwhile, the same people who failed to strengthen the squad, ignored glaring weaknesses and left us embarrassingly short of quality will sit comfortably in their offices and appoint the next poor bastard to inherit their mess. I’m sick to death of managers being used as human shields for INEOS.
