Over the weekend, another abandoned governance was attacked, and $4.75M was stolen. This attack stands out because of how the targeted governance worked. x100 DAO operated like a multisig: the 3 wallets with the most locked tokens could not only submit but also immediately approve any proposal, as long as 2 of them agreed. To make matters worse, wallets' voting power for governance purposes was counted in the same second/block. There was no snapshot taken at a prior block - a common practice to prevent flash loan attacks, where attackers borrow voting power to drain DAO funds. With no flash loan protection and power concentrated in the 3 largest addresses, x100 DAO was drained. In a single transaction, the attacker: - Took out a $1.9M flash loan - Bought 38,200 $X, x100 DAO's governance token, and split it across 2 addresses - Locked 19,000 $X in each address, taking control of the DAO's 2 most powerful wallets - Using a fake $X pool the attacker had created earlier, sent 400,000 $X from the treasury into that pool and swapped it for just $35 - Took the 400,000 $X out of the pool and sold it on a "real" pool for $6.7M - Finally, sold $1.9M worth of $X to repay the flash loan, walking away with $4.75M from the operation. On top of that, right after the attack, other attackers spotted the vulnerability and decided to exploit it too, stealing another $100K after the first one. The issue at x100 DAO was an old and common vulnerability in past governance systems, and it has now joined the hall of exploited abandoned governances.
🚨 Blockaid detected an ongoing exploit on X100 on Ethereum. An attacker seized two of three Senate seats and sold 400,000 X from the treasury into an empty pool they created. A second attacker later burned the Freezer’s Uniswap V3 positions. ~$4.85M USDT realized so far across 2 txs. Attack still ongoing.

near's house of stake is about to approve cutting NEAR issuance from 2.5% to 1.6%. seven delegates cast 99.8% of the votes. their own stake is tiny. each one votes a single backer's tokens. two of those backers trace to the near foundation. its payments account funded one, and the other is a foundation endowment DAO. one unlabeled wallet funded three more, 200k+ NEAR each, within 30 hours last october. to vote you have to lock NEAR in house of stake, and only 0.4% of NEAR is locked. the snapshot was taken when voting opened, so the 600M NEAR staked with validators can't join this one. the whole vote is under 0.2% of circulating supply. svrn, who proposed it, says it holds 55M NEAR, 25x the entire vote. validators have to adopt it next. on paper, though, near's holders are approving a cut to their own staking yield, from 5.3% to 3.4%.
A new governance proposal is up for voting in the House of Stake to cut issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months. Engage with the full proposal and participate below 👇

humans vetting humans not not be enough to secure valuable systems. as signalling it's ok, but not let's say to secure a chain. for this - you need as many proofs as possible. mix of reputation, social graph and ofc you need private biometrics in the entrance.
oh and btw, proof of humanity by scanning your iris or whatever part of your body is completely missing the point real proof of humanity is a network of humans vetting humans the trust = the social graph

Absolutely! On the left is the graphic they used to describe the research that won the Nobble Prize in Economics. On the left is the actual data.
It really is astounding and scandalous how much the economics dept (all political persuasions) just engage in bald faced lies about the intellectual history.

Balaji’s Network School app shadow banning previous farcaster users cause they are ‘bot’ or ‘fighting online’. Crazy. Another loss for decentralisation.

Our north star is per human decentralization.
if performance is not a mandate / north star, pivoting from L2 to L1 is a nobrainer decision more chains should do this

a glimpse into Pyth DAO vote on 100% buyback: the 100% buyback vote was decided by a wallet very likely tied to Douro Labs, the company that runs Pyth Pro and keeps 40% of its revenue. the DAO's 60% now all goes to buying PYTH. that wallet holds 25% of all PYTH. in 2026 it decided 18 of the 27 proposals that passed. the next four big wallets carried most of the rest. small holders do pick the councils. the big wallets skip those elections, then vote the results through in a separate approval. the council that runs the buybacks had no election this year. 4 seats auto-renewed and 4 nominees ran for 4 seats. Douro holds 2 of 8. Basically a miltisig guardrail to protect from DAO exploits, I believe. the next vote moves all the DAO's USDC and SOL to that council's multisig. 6 of 8 signers, no time lock. future revenue goes straight there too. in july two votes failed with 100+ voters at 99% yes because a major staker couldn't vote through a fireblocks bug. they reran them unchanged and both passed.
Under Pyth's new "100% Rule," the DAO's share of Pyth Pro, Indices, Data Marketplace and Listing as a Service revenue goes to buying PYTH. The Reserve holds about 42 million PYTH and first purchases under the rule ran Sept. 30, per Pyth. unchainedcrypto.com/pyth-dao…

he did this to balancer, and sushi, and compound before. 1. buys the token on the open market 2. spreads it across wallets or a wrapper 3. wins votes inside the rules 4. makes the DAO deal with him
humpy-linked wallet is about to pass two compound votes tonight that move treasury control from the foundation's committee to on-chain governance, where it decides it went from zero to a majority of delegated COMP in 5.5 months, march to mid-august. they bought the COMP on exchanges, wrapped it in API3's dCOMP and borrowed ~$12.6M against it on morpho, keeping the votes. it holds 54% now. since sep 22 it decided every contested vote, including killing the security providers renewal. humpy.eth also voted for tonight's two from his own wallet. against can't catch up for this vote. on oct 1 the wrapper's depositor delegated exactly 25k COMP, the proposal threshold, to a fresh wallet. that wallet posted one of the two proposals the next day. compound counted voting power on oct 4, so both votes are locked. only the guardian multisig can cancel them, and it let his first win through in september. holders can still beat him on the next votes. 6.5M COMP sits undelegated vs his 1.75M, its owners have to delegate it.

Tensions in @Compound_xyz governance reached a peak this Friday. Humpy, a well-known DAO attacker, has been putting pressure on Compound governance through Ugur Mersin. Ugur works at API3, a company that has a commercial relationship with Humpy through its dCOMP product. Humpy has been using dCOMP to post his $COMP as collateral and, potentially, increase his voting power in Compound. Today, he is the DAO's largest individual $COMP holder. Ugur/Humpy have already managed to block a proposal to renew Compound's Security Service Providers. Now, they've submitted an on-chain proposal that, among other things, would allow governance to cancel transactions from the group responsible for managing the DAO's treasury (TMC). This would let Humpy block that group's transactions. While the forum and governance are open to criticism, the strategy of spamming forums and disrupting the DAO's operations is a pattern seen in Humpy's past attacks on Sushi, Balancer, and others. Compound has a multisig capable of canceling malicious proposals, but if it has to use that power to stop Ugur/Humpy's proposals, it could put even more strain on its governance. We're glad to have contributed to the Compound, not only by identifying the relationship between Ugur/API3 and Humpy's use of his voting power to push his agenda through governance, but also by showing how dCOMP has been key to increasing his influence in Compound. If you'd like to learn more, we recommend reading our research about Humpy, dCOMP and Compound.

you're probably someone who wrote off zec, near, and plenty of other chains as dead because "they failed" early on i don't endorse this kind of thinking. mega was born with a mission, and we're sticking with it until we find pmf. i'll skip every single conference if that's what it takes. god bless mega

greenfiend capital went to swiss government to change Safe foundation they say foundation $60M spent in 4 years while revenue is below 10M/year and market share going down. current board is three ex-Gnosis insiders with a conflict of interest. the board was self-proclaimed. after the Bybit hack, Gnosis allegedly forced Safe's founders to hand over SAFE by threatening to dump its 10%. and they want Stefan George off the board plus independent outside directors.
1/ Today @greenfield_cap published an open letter on the @safe Community Forum explaining why we have filed a supervisory complaint with the Swiss Federal Supervisory Authority for Foundations (ESA) concerning the Safe Ecosystem Foundation. Here is why, and what we are asking for.
