Artifact from the famous Tomb 43 at the Varna Necropolis in Bulgaria, discovered in 1972 and dated to approximately 4600–4300 B.C. (about 6,500 years ago). The skeleton belongs to a high-ranking male or ruler from the Copper Age, buried with an impressive collection of scepers, bracelets, beads, and gold ornaments. The archaeological significance of this discovery lies in the fact that these objects constitute the oldest worked and processed gold ever found in the world. More than 1.5 kilograms of the precious metal were found in this single burial alone, exceeding in weight all the gold discovered elsewhere on the planet from that same historical period. This site transformed modern understanding of prehistoric communities in Eastern Europe. The complex metallurgical craftsmanship and the astonishing concentration of wealth in a single tomb demonstrated for the first time that the Varna culture had already developed a distinct social hierarchy and complex power structures millennia before the flourishing of ancient Egypt or Mesopotamia.

"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you got to put up with the rain!" — Dolly Parton This letterpress print needed a little rainbow ink, and it’s dedicated to everyone who loves Dolly Parton. Printed at the Sacramento History Museum’s print shop on a Washington hand press made in 1852, the design features a beautiful gradient of red, yellow, blue, and purple ink.

I don’t give a rat’s ass that Lindsey Graham was a closeted gay. We all knew that years ago! I do give a shit that he was a lying hypocrite who voted against others who didn’t hide their sexuality. 🤬

The characterisation of Mr and Mrs Bennet in Pride & Prejudice is brilliant. Mr Bennet married for looks and has since come to regret having done so. He copes with Mrs Bennet’s ceaseless prattle by shutting himself in the library, and has developed a caustic, sharp-edged humor (some intriguing parallels are drawn between him and Charlotte Lucas). He is a negligent father who seems only to care for Lizzy. Non-readers often assume that Austen’s books are syrupy odes to the joys of romance and marriage. Part of the cleverness of her writing is that, with a handful of exceptions, most of the married couples in her stories are miserable. A good marriage is possible, but by no means guaranteed. She is a hard-nosed realist, and her eye misses nothing.

Here’s to all those who do more than is expected, give more than is required, and care more than we may ever know. Every day, all across our country, good people are doing good things. Quiet acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, and decency that often go unnoticed but make our communities stronger. This is the goodness at the heart of our nation. May we recognize it more. May we celebrate it more. And may we bring more of this spirit into our own lives and the lives of others. op: @the.amazing.truth

🧠 Scientists Used Flashing Light and Sound to Fight Alzheimer’s — And the Results Are Intriguing! What if something as simple as flashing light and pulsing sound could help the brain fight one of its most devastating diseases? Scientists are investigating a fascinating technique that uses light and sound flashing 40 times per second to stimulate brain activity. Known as gamma sensory stimulation, this method aims to activate brain rhythms that may help the brain manage harmful protein buildup linked to Alzheimer’s disease. In studies involving mice, researchers found that this stimulation reduced amyloid-beta plaques, abnormal protein clumps associated with Alzheimer’s. Early human trials have also shown promising signs, including changes in brain activity and certain measures of brain health. But there’s an important catch: Scientists have not yet proven that this technique clears Alzheimer’s plaques in humans or can stop the disease. Larger clinical trials are needed to determine whether it can truly help patients. Could a carefully timed pattern of light and sound become part of future Alzheimer’s treatment? Researchers are working to find out. Source: Chan, D., et al. (2022). Gamma frequency sensory stimulation in mild probable Alzheimer’s dementia patients: Results of feasibility and pilot studies. In 1964, a young theoretical physicist at the University of Edinburgh wrote a short paper explaining how certain particles could acquire mass without destroying the mathematical consistency of a gauge theory. His name was Peter Higgs. He first submitted a paper to Physics Letters, where it was accepted. Then he wrote a second paper developing the idea further. That second paper was rejected by Physics Letters. Higgs revised it, explicitly drawing attention to the existence of a new massive particle, and submitted it to Physical Review Letters, which published it in October 1964. Nearly half a century later, CERN announced the discovery of a particle consistent with the Higgs boson. In 2013, Higgs and François Englert received the Nobel Prize in Physics.
