In 1970, Madeline Nyamwanza-Makonese became Zimbabwe’s first Black woman to qualify as a medical doctor. She was the only woman among 25 graduates in her class. Today, @CimasHealth renamed its Van Praagh Medical Centre the Madeline Nyamwanza-Makonese Medical Centre in her honour. Completed in 2024, the building is owned by property investor Mashonaland Holdings. Cimas operates it on a long-term lease.

I remember when we used to exchange books in class for marking, and the person with your book would start asking “What if someone has written”

Benin doesn’t have Ghana’s gold, cocoa or oil wealth, yet look at what they’re doing with their public spaces. 🇧🇯 Some people might think, this is ai-generated. 🤣😝

BONGANI MTHOMBENI APPOINTED CEO Atana has appointed Bongani Mthombeni as its new Chief Executive Officer. A board member and executive leader within the company, she succeeds Interim CEO Vidar Johannessen, who has led the business since February. Mthombeni brings 18 years of experience across engineering, infrastructure and professional services, having held senior leadership roles at several organisations. Lyricist from the Lion King sued a comedian over a joke -- that the opening chant translates to "Look, there's a lion. Oh my god" -- and now owes the comedian ~$40,000 in attorneys' fees.

We're delighted to welcome @FlyAirZimbabwe to London Gatwick, with the launch of the UK's only direct service to Harare! ✈️ Operating three times a week from our South Terminal, the new route reconnects London Gatwick and Zimbabwe's capital for the first time in more than 14 years, offering passengers even more choice when travelling to Africa. Demand for travel between Africa and London Gatwick continues to grow, with passenger traffic increasing by 72% since 2023. Harare becomes the latest addition to our expanding route network during a record summer that sees 63 airline partners operating from the airport. We look forward to working with Air Zimbabwe and connecting more passengers to Zimbabwe and destinations across southern Africa. Read the press release here: mediacentre.gatwickairport.c…

Food: In both business and economy, passengers were given a choice of Fish, Chicken, Beef, Vegetarian or a Traditional dish. I didn’t see the traditional dish so I am not sure what it was. We were served both dinner and breakfast.

Overall was a good flight, I slept an hour after take-off and woke up 2hours before landing. Will I be taking it again? Yes, I don’t like layovers and the convenience of spending the day at work, heading to the airport at 7pm and being in London the next morning is great!
