In building out the Executive Support Programme for Executive Virtual Assistants (EVAs) and Executive Personal Assistants (EPAs), the entry point was critical. So many of the learners come into the Programme because 1. They want the ease of remote work as a *side hustle*. 2. They want an additional stream of income. Nothing wrong with that but very often, this meant they also wanted minimal work and work that doesn’t require too much critical thinking. “Just tell me what to do and when you want it then leave me be” type of energy. The problem? Builders, Founders and CEOs need CAPABLE and INTENTIONAL Co-Creators and no one prepares learners for that. We do. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard hardworking young people (especially tech talent) complain about the infrastructural deficits like electricity supply, connectivity and dignified housing solutions and what that means for their inability to access and retain global opportunities. Worse still, is the cost of living in cities like Lagos and Abuja and what that means for their mental and psychological health. My HR/People background makes this even more real. This is a huge issue. The ecosystem of skill, jobs and live/work spaces is one that requires very specific but common sense interventions if we are to harness the opportunities of global remote work and business process outsourcing. If not, all the efforts by @FMCIDENigeria and @fmitiofficial will be DOA. It doesn’t have to be this way and places like @aksgovt are primed to lead this charge.

A few years ago, a friend of mine said something that stayed with me. I asked who his role models were and without hesitation, he said “my father and grandfather”. Then he said specifically of his grandfather: “that man ran into walls he KNEW he would never break, but he knew he needed to weaken it for the coming generation.” Many people don’t realize this is what Obi is doing.

I noticed something similar. It seems to use location and frequency to suggest who to transfer to. Everytime a walk in to a particular shop and open the app, their account details are suggested.

This particular platform (KayHikersClub) is a very good sample size to study the Nigerian (millennial) youth. Whatever conclusion you come up with is up to You but for me: 1. They display our inability to maintain decorum 2. They show just how dangerous both ‘sides’ of the divide are: a rabid, rebellious and closed off opposition and a disingenuous, self-serving support base. 3. They are EXACTLY the kind of demographic that keeps the worst of us in power.

He’s right. From Arteta’s first presser, it was clear he understood the dimensions of the challenge:- 1. (Re)connection to the fan base, 2. Team culture and non-negotiables BEFORE 3. Patient and incremental progress based on recruitment (filtered by the the installed culture). This is why I have always known United was far from any real progress. They refuse to accept the (full) process. The only other way is brute (financial) force.
