Brandwank is a funny but familiar look at the bollocks people write at work. A campaign against a language everyone says they hate and pretends they don't use.

I've written a book. It's called Brandwank. It’s a funny, but serious look at the bollocks people speak at work & how they choose complexity over clarity trying to sound like the most important person in the meeting. It’s available on Amazon here: bit.ly/44dJymr

When everyone can produce unlimited content, producing more of it is no longer an advantage. Having a clear voice and something recognisable to say is.

The first rule of Dunning Kruger Club: You don’t know you’re in Dunning-Kruger Club. This week in The Club has been marketing week . Ryan and some of the tech bros have built a spam machine. They use it to shower the world with shit. It can drop a message into every LinkedIn messaging inbox on the planet with a link to a web site, or Insta, some TikToks. Ryan and his like probably appear in one of you inboxes several times a day, offering to 10x your business. What Ryan is doing is trying to shortcut the most important part of marketing. The relationship. He’s outsourcing that to you. “Go and look at my web site, my Insta, my TikTok, my LinkedIn, and if you get what I’m about and like my vibe, then buy my thing or book my meeting”. He wants you to build the relationship you haven’t asked for. And no-one does. Ryan’s lost sight of the customer. He’s doesn’t know what it is to be human. He’s never learned what good marketing looks like. He’s replaced smart creative, witty, shocking, original ideas with a spam machine. He’s used technology to encourage his own laziness. Never look at Ryan and his crowd and assume he knows something you don’t. He doesn’t even know something he doesn’t know. Stick to your guns. Stay creative, don’t be boring and you’ll win.

The winners in the next twelve months will be the people willing to put themselves and their personality into their marketing, when everyone else is busy automating themselves out of it.

AI madness latest: Apparently some people are deliberately making mistakes in their writing to show it's not AI. Have we completely lost our fucking minds? How little confidence do you have to have in your writing to worry people might mistakenly think it's AI (I've left the question mark off here just in case 🙄😂) If you wrote it yourself, from the heart, and you believe every word of it, don’t deliberately make it worse just to prove a human wrote it. Don't make it shit just to prove it's not another kind of shit. Here's what you do instead. Sit up straight, pull your shoulders back, put a big smile on your face, and press publish like you mean it. And as you do, mutter these words under your breath: "Fuck AI."

The point of a brand’s voice is to be recognisable, not mistaken for everybody else. Too many brands optimise for comfort and conformity. Meanwhile someone who isn’t frightened of saying "fuck it", is getting noticed and cleaning up. You don’t beat the leader by sounding like them. You beat them by sounding like you.

Brandwank Bingo's had an update. "Brandwank" the book is a funny, but painfully familiar look at the bollocks people write at work, and why no-one ever says "leverage" in the pub. I promise it will make you laugh, right up to the point where you realise you're laughing at youself. brandwank.co.uk

Me sending increasingly unhinged replies to people who spam my LinkedIn DMs. ---------------------------- If we share a sense of humour, you might like my book, "Brandwank". It's a painfully familiar look at the bollocks people write at work and why? I promise it will make you laugh, and then half way through you'll realise you might be laughing at yourself. “Brandwank” is a funny, but uncomfortably familiar look at the mangled language people write at work, and how AI has poured petrol on the problem. It's a campaign against a language everyone says they hate and pretends they don't use 🤷‍♂️ More at brandwank.co.uk

It's difficult to explain to someone today what an iconic player Kevin Keegan was. Maybe the first British football superstar. He was my boyhood hero. Later in life I met him in a restaurant. He was the politest, most courteous man. RIP #KevinKeegan bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…
