A somewhat common but strange response to the consumer request for AI disclosures on products is to suggest that if you did this, you should have to disclose all sorts of other things (how many people worked on the product, what other software you used, what hardware it was made on, etc.) I can understand that some people don't like the idea of having AI disclosures, so they immediately try to think of arguments against it. But respectfully, this one makes no sense. Product labeling requirements are driven by demand, either from consumers or from competitors. There is no significant cross-section of the public asking to know if a game was made on machines with AMD or Intel hardware. There is no significant cross-section of the industry demanding that their competitors list whether or not they used Adobe Premier. Product labeling is not about giving you a complete set of information about how a product was made. It's about giving the consumer information that a significant number of them might want to know before making a purchase. Which ones of these get codified can be driven by consumer demand, competitor demand, or - most commonly - a combination of the two. This is not weird. It's good, actually. And it's especially good if an industry takes proactive steps to voluntarily label their products accurately, because then they avoid the inevitable alternative, which is that the consumer demand for the missing labeling produces a political movement which ends with mandatory labeling designed by a political body.

Maybe we should delete the 99% of stuff that is just wasteful and friction-causing, the main purpose of which seems just to be to increase attack surface. xitter.cf/unusual_whales/status/…
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word to use… models can find bugs that are outside of the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs."

I have INSANE respect for creators that only work with brands they actually believe in. It's a very rare trait. When the offers get big, most people will just say what they're told to say. And look, in most cases I'm not even judging the people "getting their bag", just saying that the real ones are real ones.

The anti-datacenter movement is literally the most rational response imaginable to an industry whose leaders have publicly said the best case scenario for their product is to get everyone fired. If you can’t see this then your brain is in late stage tech rot.
The anti-datacenter psychosis sweeping through both sides of our national politics might be the worst mass movement I've seen in my lifetime. The magnitude of lies underpinning it, the threat it poses to our economy and civilization, and the sheer scale of its popularity are totally unprecedented. It should be an enduring national shame that the country that invented the airplane, landed on the Moon, and created the Internet is descending into superstitious panic at the very moment growth matters most

Paid Claude subscribers are cancelling their sub in droves due to the watermark requirement on AI-generated content. They fear content will be properly labelled as AI-generated instead of being able to pass it off as their own work.

Codecademy is down 95% Udemy/Coursera down 80% Many smaller education companies permanently shut down this year This is the hardest market for high quality, interactive courses that we've had since I started boot dev But we're still growing. Not gonna let the slop win.

When AI companies pirate something*, it's "fair use". When someone pirates their model data, it's "stealing" and "undermining American research". * - Literally pirate. Multiple court admissions have made clear that AI companies download millions of works from pirate sites.
We have information that Moonshot AI distilled Anthropic’s Fable for the development of its K3 model. To do this they developed a sophisticated internal platform to conduct large scale distillation against U.S. models, allowing them to quickly switch between multiple methods of access to avoid detection. Moonshot AI has also acquired GB300-equipped servers and has accessed GB300s in Thailand, likely to train its AI models.   The United States strongly supports the free and fair development of AI, including a thriving competitive ecosystem that spans frontier models, specialized systems, open-source frameworks, and open-weight models. Legitimate AI distillation used to create smaller, more efficient models plays a vital role in this open innovation ecosystem. However, large-scale, covert industrial distillation aimed at stealing proprietary U.S. technology and undermining American research is unacceptable.

I would trust them to do this in a limited capacity for specific tasks if they check in with me about it first. The problem is that these tools deeply encourage laziness and it is a VERY slippery slope til you are just telling the thing to write all the shit.

Over the last 6 months, I've found that its like 200% harder to find developers, writers, and artists that ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING but take what I tell them, hand it to a clanker, and give me the output The people that don't do this are 500% more valuable *disclaimer: all numbers are made up*

Guys I have a trillion dollar idea. First, we move all games to cloud streaming. “But the data centers are far away, what about the latency?” well see here’s the genius part. We set up a tiny “edge datacenter” inside every subscriber’s house, maybe even as small as 1 GPU.

We live so much of our life in negatives, in fact G.K. Chesterton referred to this as the second fall of man. > don't drink because its bad for you. > exercise or you will die early > staying up late will harm your thinking Everything is viewed through a negative. We no longer have the knowledge of good and evil, just evil. Here is my good focused driver that I think about regularly > Having joy in the craft drives you to action You get to build what your brain can come up with. No where in the history of man has the imaginations been so thoroughly realized. What a time to be alive. Even better? You get to ask in english to explain a technical concept and out will come a (hopefully) accurate description! I want to build something I love. Love fundamentally requires sacrifice. I want something that I cared for, worked hard for, and am proud of. My goal is not simply just the outcome. The finished product. The approximation of my idea manifested through a series of loops and prompts. My goal is not simply IKEA furniture, its discovery and joy and hardwork and being thoughtful and considering how to tame the behemoth. Ultimately, I want precisely the idea and ideal overlapping in the thing i craft.

You can now pretend to be an AI chatbot. Real people ask questions to the "AI" chatbot, and on the other end, you answer them. It also works the other way around: you can ask questions to the "AI" chatbot that other users answer. youraislopbores.me/
