The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago today was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want -- But inflation! But wokeness! -- but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made.
Last night I rewatched Gladiator in preparation for seeing the sequel tonight. I haven’t seen it in a fair while, but It’s absolutely magnificent in 4k and holds up well both as a technical masterpiece, an action spectacle and a piece of propulsive mythic storytelling 1/
So what comes next? Well, if Donald Trump knows anything, it’s how to put on a show. He’s already commissioned his own set of gladiatorial games - the manufactured drama and expert trolling by his clown car of political appointments will be a sight to see.

I can’t believe I have to repeat this. US inflation had nothing to do with any specific US policy. It was a global post-Covid problem driven by a pent up need for consumption and activity that had been reduced during the pandemic. Every country experienced post-covid inflation!
Excellent sold-out screening of The Beginning at Sydney Film Festival with many cast and crew in attendance. Hearing the 150 strong audience giggle, gasp and cheer is what I live for.

All this stuff we knew about long before COVID came along. We’ve seen it wrt global warming, alt. & holistic medicine, and many other more niche topics — a chasm opens up between reality, & what a large % of the population believe. Even so, it manages to surprise and disappoint.
