Can specialized AI startups compete with the frontier labs as they move into applications?
“All of the legal advancements from the Frontier Labs have been very shallow.”
Legora CEO @MaxJunestrand argues that the labs have made limited progress in legal AI, while his company is building its products using 17 different models.

AI is making it easier to discover security vulnerabilities.
But increasingly capable Chinese open-source models could leave defenders with far less time to fix them.
The Information's @leomschwartz explains why the cybersecurity advantage enjoyed by defenders may be disappearing.
“You're not going to have two months anymore. You might not even have a few days.”

Meta could turn data from its AI products into a major advantage for its advertising business.
Mizuho analyst @wammertime explains why Zuckerberg's plans to let users share their Muse data with Meta's broader platform could be significant.
“That has the potential to make a step function improvement in the ad targeting of the core family of apps business.”

Scoop: a16z's flagship blockchain fund plans to drop "crypto" from its name and rebrand as a16z frontier.
a16z crypto was one of the first and largest mainstream blockchain funds, raising a monster $4.5 billion vehicle in 2022, and more recently a $2.2 billion fund earlier this year.
Andreessen Horowitz also became one of the most vocal—and deep-pocketed—defenders of crypto in Washington, D.C.
Longtime general partner Ali Yahya is also leaving the fund.
a16z crypto has already been investing in non-blockchain startups like Kalshi and the AI compute market startup Ornn, and this move to expand beyond crypto echoes recent strategies by other top blockchain firms including Paradigm and Haun Ventures.
Still, general partner Chris Dixon has long been a public face for the Web3 movement, and the decision represents a symbolic shift for one of the most prominent crypto venture operations.
