Owners spend years working to grow their earnings, which makes sense. What gets less attention is how a buyer will value those earnings, and that's often where the bigger gap sits. That question is what Hidden Multiples is about.  Grateful to Cole Capriotti for the research behind it. Grab a copy: amazon.com/Hidden-Multiples-…

Twenty-five years of OneAccord comes down to the people behind it. Our Annual Celebration was a chance to recognize the clients, partners, and friends who make this work possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us on October 6 and made it an evening to remember.

No two businesses face the same challenges, so no two plans should look the same. OASYS adapts to your industry and your priorities, then keeps your team focused on getting it done.

Writing a book about the value inside a business forces you to admit how much of it is hard to see from where the owner sits. That’s the idea behind Hidden Multiples, and launching it in a room full of the people who shaped it felt right. The ideas behind this book were shaped by years of conversations with business owners and leadership teams, including many of the people who joined us at the Bellevue Club that night. Founders who built something real and then learned a buyer saw it differently. Leadership teams who realized the business leaned too heavily on one person. I didn’t invent those lessons. I watched people work through them. Thank you for being part of that and for celebrating with us. If you’ve started reading, I’d like to hear what lands for you and what doesn’t.

I'm not giving a talk at Sagecliffe. I'm building with 30 owners and CEOs, laptops open, on their own processes. Nov 9-10. oneaccord.co/ai-workshop

My advice for the weeks before the workshop: pick one process you want gone from your week. Bring it on your laptop. We will build on it. Nov 9-10, limited to 30 people. oneaccord.co/ai-workshop

There's a particular kind of quiet you only get at the top of a run like this. I'll take it every chance I get.

Selling a business is a major decision. Every advisor brings value, but each has different priorities. Make sure someone is focused on protecting your interests and securing the best possible outcome. @theonenicka @jeffrrogers

Strategy offsites go well. The real challenge is keeping things moving six weeks later. By then the urgent work is back, and the priorities everyone agreed on are competing with a full inbox. Nobody decides to abandon the plan. It just stops getting time. What I've seen in companies that actually execute comes down to rhythm: a standing meeting where priorities get reviewed, and a named owner for each one. It's closer to maintenance than inspiration, but a decent strategy with a weekly rhythm will outperform a brilliant one that gets discussed twice a year.

Most common thing I hear from CEOs: "I'm not an AI person." You don't need to be. You need to know where your company loses time and money. That's your job already. Nov 9-10, Quincy WA. 30 people. oneaccord.co/ai-workshop

Illiquid investments are handcuffs when approaching retirement. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into before doing it. I'd limit it to capital you can afford to retire without, because often it does disappear.
