Our flagship drone which we call Hopper, has performance that should blow you away:
- 6 hours of flight time
- range of 180 miles
- that’s while carrying a typical 10-lb payload (easily carrying cameras, sensors, cargo; such as tacos 🌮😄)
- the empty vehicle weighs just 20lbs

It’s been so long since I shared anything publicly about what I’ve been working on and I am very excited to show off what we’ve been building. ([email protected])
I’d like to publicly introduce Therecraft which offers aviation services using our drone vehicle called Hopper —
The colors of the aircraft in this photo were selected to maximize visibility. The rest were just because:
Here’s something most folks don’t know — in 2018, we became one of the first drone companies in the world to receive approval to fly drones beyond line of sight, from Samgöngustofan - the Icelandic Transit Authority:
Looking back to where we were this time last year. We’ve come a long way —

We were field testing the autonomy software using a humble RC plane to contain rather more sophisticated electronics and software, and landed a big milestone.
We hadn’t launched then so I wasn’t sharing photos. Glad to do so now, as a memento from the era of visible smiles:
Exactly! A test pilot will explore the “flight envelope” or “performance envelope”, a conceptual surface of parameters defining what a vehicle is capable of being pushed to do and still remain controllable (and intact).
TIL the phrase "push the envelope" comes from aviation and mathematics, not the thing you put stamps on!

Here’s a great video illustrating flight testing to specifically discover the controllability in spin modes of the F-106B youtu.be/SILtPSs6pEM
A small shot of good news — ThereCraft’s entry for Stage 1 of the First Responder UAS Challenge has won! We will advance to the next stage 🩺🛸🏆

This #drone from @therecraft__ uses a lifting body design and doesn’t actually have conventional wings. buff.ly/3bjM7pe
We’re in @IEEESpectrum ! A precise profile with clear descriptions of what we’ve built and where we’re going: spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/… “ThereCraft’s Lifting Body Drone Acrobatically Delivers Packages With Pinpoint Accuracy”
Would you order items such as hand sanitizer + a mask delivered to your home by drone in the LA area if you could?
“Where are the millions of delivery drones?” YES LET’S GO!
We have to want the future to build it. That requires optimism that human innovation and energy can produce improvements.
The fundamental question is whether we believe progress is good.
This year has certainly shown us that it is necessary. a16z.com/2020/04/18/its-time…
Here’s to everyone feeling stuck at home. What do you most wish you could have brought to you these days? Make a wish — we want to hear everything you can think of.
Announcing ThereCraft!
