“Language could never fully index or do justice to the violence, and no art form felt adequate in the face of such extremes. Yet, at some point, there is an obligation to keep creating.” —Jumana Manna, in an interview by TJ Demos for @thirdtext_ ow.ly/kPmS50W1BZO

The victims of the genocide in Gaza are producing the images of the Israeli colonial genocidal regime [1]: “it is the victims now who produce a huge number of photographs – not under the modality of extraction but under one of survival and survivance” AAA

The Grenfell Tower fire disaster in London was six years ago to the day, on 14 June 2017. Artist Lana Locke writes a highly personal response in Third Text Online, prompted by seeing Steve McQueen's film 'Grenfell' (2019) at the Serpentine South Gallery thirdtext.org/locke-grenfell

I have always been in awe of the @1947Partition #archive project, the insights to their discoveries are democratising and are providing a platform for histories that otherwise would not have existed. @Guneeta_SB @thirdtext_ thirdtext.org/livingarchives…

so glad to see this article now in the midst of a wonderful conversation. down with museums!
"We must start at the end: the goal is to close the museum. And then to think beyond it." In Third Text 179, Alírio Karina argues that to truly ‘decolonise' the museum, we must end it and instead reimagine new ways of relating to memory and identity. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

Exciting finds in my pigeonhole at work today. A new issue of @thirdtext_ with the article I wrote with Kasia Marciniak (with great shot of Polish film star Krystyna Janda), and a copy of my colleague Christopher Frayling’s new book on vampire cinema.

An open-access article I wrote with Katarzyna Marciniak on representations of refugees in recent films. #refugeecinema
'The cinematic refugee is fugitive in a double sense, both as an individual forced into exile, and as an indeterminate figure who resists the attribution of a fixed identity.' On fugitive cinema and refugee aesthetics in Third Text 178: centralbooks.com/third-text-…

Shameless replug; this might seem more urgent or even read better today? 'Becoming terrestrial or recomposing a common ground requires a future beyond global capitalism, even if Latour won’t say so.' #CriticalZones @thirdtext_ thirdtext.org/mannes-abbott-…

Enjoy the sun today but perhaps pick up Critical Zones @mitpress on the way home, or at least read on below first? It’s not easy to find an acute but stable language (+ trans of eco sciences) for our moment; this bk includes a bold attempt to visualise some complex ideas/words.

‘Forests provide another example of a porous, penetrative, enveloping Zone. Jérôme Gaillardet writes: ‘it is known that trees communicate w each other, so what about all the other agents in the critical soils – water, bacteria, clays, and carbon dioxide?’ These are the stakes…’

About a decade a go, I took this photo of the #Kusama x Vuitton window at Selfridges, and started thinking about Yayoi Kusama's work as a practice of commodified self-destruction, resulting in the article "The Spotted Seppuku" just released in @thirdtext_ tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
