I am tired of technical evangelists explaining things they do not understand by delivering canned content and running through lists of talking points then stumbling on questions.
There is no substitute for knowing what you are talking about. Learn before trying to teach others.

I also recommend advocacy to all engineers, you pick up all sorts of skills and I'm twice the engineer I was before I moved into DevRel, in quite unquantifiable ways. I haven't found my way back to engineering yet though (still having too much fun)

I left devrel in 2020. I learnt a huge amount in that role and would recommend advocacy to all engineers (even only for a short time). It benefited me in some many ways (although advoacy is a very challenging role). I've moved back into engineering now and onto new adventures...

Superb article by @thomasj, full of direct advice like this:
"Would you hire a VP of Engineering or CTO who has never worked as a developer? I’m assuming no .. People often move into senior leadership positions in Developer Relations without any practical experience of the role"
Here the lessons I learnt about Developer Relations after over five years working as an advocate. This (rather long) blog post lists all the things I'd do to make a successful developer relations organisation.

There are lots of great ways to emulate #serverless dev environments locally (e.g. serverless-offline, @_localstack, sam local, etc.), but I think @garethmcc is spot on that once you introduce most cloud services, local emulation becomes a fool's errand and a massive time suck.
Its amazing what can inspire you to get something done. Had a blog post sitting around I've been picking at for months. @astuyve made a post yesterday about the same topic and it galvanized me to action. Behold: dev.to/garethmcc/why-local-d…

This thread explores why we have so seldom heard the the truth about what’s happening to our oceans.
