Proudness! This is official release day for our (@hueandcry’s) new electro-pop album, ‘Everybody’. All the streaming options here slinky.to/EverybodyHueCry and some early rave reviews below. Love to GK, & the Blairhill Media team, for amazing work. Play it, share it, dance around…
It's as @bratton says: watch your (p)weird, not your (p)doom. Here, a Poindexter chats with a AI simulation of an overworked black working-class male/father.
But the more they simulate us, the more we come to value human co-presence... Right? [HT @daveg]
🇺🇸 Jack Dorsey’s new AI voice model Dessa is absolutely insane.
There is no way to distinguish it from a human, man … crazy.
Thats kinda cool, but many people will get attached to it and isolate from real humans even more. Many will get scammed on the phone, especially grandpas and grandmas.
The future is coming get ready

The debate on Jackdaw comes, as usual, from on high - a technocratic battle btwn leaders and experts. We need to refocus on the agency of ordinary citizens to adapt--otherwise the far right profits from their despair. My @ScotNational column @ClimateMajor thenational.scot/politics/26…

The Superplay Report is back - a debate between Yuval Noah Harari and Kevin Kelly on AIs as deluded liars (like us), or nurturant ecosystems. Also, how poetry and playfulness returns as AI throws reading (and education) into crisis. For more insight, visit patkane.global/#/superplay/

Just as America is pulled by its worse angels, it emerges those who pull by its better ones. Kennedy-esque, indeed
OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year.
Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.
If indy fever is to intensify, we need to develop solid positions on currency, pensions, nukes. But there also needs to be a civic & cultural vitality behind that--to show global elites there's a country worth legitimating. My @ScotNational col #snp26 thenational.scot/politics/26…
New Alternative Weekly out mailchi.mp/4adfa6229acd/the-… Editorial asks "are we already post-human"? Other items include the new Nobel Peace Laureate, the possibility of a People's AI, & a powerful convo between @JeremyRLent & @KateRaworth. Plus spring.site posts. Enjoy!
Read it once through. I still can't see much practical difference between convincing, "conscious-seeming" computation, and biologically-natural consciousness. Adorno once said: "for some, it is already an impertinence to say 'I'". Maybe we're moving to @bratton's AgentWorld?
🎇 Good news! 🎇 The kind people at @BBSJournal have made the new collection on "Conscious AI and biological naturalism" completely #OpenAccess for a limited period. This include the target article, all 50 commentaries (many of which disagree with me), and my response. Go to the link and click 'save pdf': DOI.org/10.1017/S0140525X250…
For easier ways into the debate, try my @NoemaMag essay on "The Mythology of Conscious AI" (winner of the 2025 @berggruenInst Essay Prize), and this 2026 main-stage @TEDTalks:

Peace keeps getting dismissed as naive, a luxurious lack of moral discernment. My new essay argues the opposite: it demands far more of us than facile cheering for destruction of “the enemy”.

Post below is good satire on Musk - but my Premier Inn floor-cleaning robot this morning made it all too real...

"The universe sounds like Giorgio Moroder." I spoke to Hue And Cry's Pat and Greg Kane for @heraldmagazine They were hugely entertaining company:

The ex-Google director-general of the BBC, Matt Brittin, is a little too Silicon Valley tech-bro, combining cuts in jobs & shows with flashy apps. But he does open up what we Scots might do with our public-service media under Indy. My @scotnational column thenational.scot/politics/26…
How terrible. Just at the point where we need the humanities to be vaunted, as technology challenges & simulates it, BBC cuts two of its richest platforms. I guess academic podcasts are the alternative, but this is a broadcasting impoverishment
Sorry to inform you that @BBCFreeThinking (and Thinking Allowed) have been cancelled as part of cost-saving measures. Last show will go out in April. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmly…
