One of the highlights of my time in Jordan was visiting UNWRA archives and examining the index cards and other records of the 750,000 Palestinians kicked off their land at the Nakba in 1948. They used to be kept in Gaza and were airlifted out at the beginning of the genocide- Israel has destroyed all the archives that remained. They form the best evidence for some form of reparations in the future and are now being scanned and digitalised

نظّمت منظمة النهضة العربية للديمقراطية والتنمية (أرض)، من خلال مركز النهضة الاستراتيجي، وتحت عنوان «غزة ومنعطف التاريخ: الشرق الأوسط قبل وبعد»، زيارة إلى أرشيف الصور والأفلام التابع لوكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين (الأونروا)، بمشاركة المؤرخ والكاتب البريطاني البارز ويليام دالريمبل، إلى جانب لقاء عمل حواري رفيع المستوى جمع دبلوماسيين وأكاديميين وصنّاع سياسات وخبراء إقليميين، لمناقشة التطورات في غزة وفلسطين ضمن التحولات التاريخية والسياسية الأوسع التي يشهدها الشرق الأوسط.

The Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), through its Renaissance Strategic Center (RSC), organised, under the theme “Gaza and the Turning of History: The Middle East Before and After,” a visit to the UNRWA Photo and Film Archives with renowned British historian and author William Dalrymple, alongside a high-level working lunch bringing together diplomats, academics, policymakers, and regional experts to reflect on Gaza and Palestine within the broader historical and political transformations shaping the Middle East.
During the visit to the UNRWA Archives, facilitated in cooperation with UNRWA, Dalrymple explored historical records documenting Palestinian displacement, refugee experiences, and collective memory since 1948. Recognized by UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme, the archives underscore the importance of preserving Palestinian history, identity, and the experiences of generations of refugees.

I have literally spent the last month trekking around Jordan interviewing elderly Nakba survivors and hearing their harrowing stories- and just completed a three hour video interview on Saturday night. No one I talked to left before multiple neighbours or family members had been shot and killed. Few of them had any weapons of any sort to protect themselves and if they did they were ancient Turkish muskets. Their opponents were armed with modern, newly-imported Czech rifles and many had been trained and drilled by the British. It became simply suicidal to remain, though many old people tried to so. The guy I interviewed on Saturday fled with his mother after their village was bombed. Their father remained and was loaded onto a truck to Gaza, at gunpoint, by the Haganah. Many of the family members that remained in Gaza have been killed in the last two years

Eisenkot was part of it & served in the military. He sat in the emergency unity security cabinet after Oct. 7 - during the genocide.
Israeli generals, soldiers & judges - all part of a system-wide mobilization. Dissenting voices existed but remained marginal.

We now know a lot more about the actions Netanyahu planned against Iran before the elections:
1) Netanyahu ordered the exact same kind of preparations that preceded the two previous attacks on Iran to take place right before the elections. The goal was to lure Iran into an attack that will influence the elections.
2) Zamir is the reason this did not take place. Everyone else either agreed with Netanyahu or at least did not pull their full weight against it.
3) Netanyahu is hoping to remain in power and fire Zamir. As a reminder, he appointed Zamir thinking he would be a yes-man after firing Herzi Halevi.
4) Netanyahu desperately tried to convince Trump to attack before Israeli elections too.
The only reason there wasn't a war before the 27th is that Netanyahu was stopped by Trump and the IDF Chief of Staff. The war will return anyway, after the midterms when it is more convenient for Trump. It is all political for both of them.

“I was released today after about four and a half months of detention.” Dr. Mazen al-Rantisi, a 71-year-old physician from Ramallah known across the West Bank as “the doctor of the poor,” speaks with a fresh wound on his face, inflicted half an hour before his release on October 25, 2026. He says a jailer dragged him to the release room handcuffed behind his back, shackled at the legs and blindfolded, then shoved and kicked him to the ground. Israeli occupation forces seized al-Rantisi from his home in the al-Tireh neighbourhood of Ramallah in June without announcing any reason, and his daughter says he lost around 25 kilograms in their prisons.
He describes Nafha prison as overrun with scabies, affecting nearly 80 percent of the Palestinian hostages held there, with almost no medicine given. When prisoners beg the passing nurse for treatment, he says, they are cursed at, mocked and ridiculed, and he was taunted for taking the chronic medication a court had ordered he receive. He calls on international human rights organisations to intervene, saying Palestinian hostages are beaten and punished at the whim of their jailers with no oversight or accountability.
