hi everyone! been super quiet for a while now and just wanted to give an update of where things are at! this is going to be a bit of a long message. 5 years ago now i created the local universe- a completely new way to explore the internet. instantly it went viral and I had users- it was awesome! it became apparent tho early on, the game had not much to it. so i had to do my best to put our content while at the same time completely reworking the engine which i had built from scratch (because everything had to run in a chrome extension). this became near impossible, however i did my best. as time went on, i would release a new feature and get some amount of interest back in the product but i simply couldnt move fast enough to retain those users. which brings me to the biggest learning- games do NOT have a shelf life. unless you are a hyper competitive game, you exist in the public eye for maybe 3 weeks. i figured lux was different though because it was more about social interactions than the game- however the game WAS the facilitating force BEHIND the social interactions. i loved the idea of building an economy in the game backed by random generation- but again without a large AND consistent user base, creating demand was very difficult. from the beginning lux was meant to be my source of income- it was to be viewed as a startup NOT as a passions project, but somewhere along the way those lines got blurred. and what should have been examined objectively (the amount of churn and lack of revenue) was looked past. the fact remained that i really really realllly wanted to make lux work, but in the end it seems i couldnt and I can talk for hours about WHY. i absolutely love making cool things and building around my passion- but (after abolutely torching through my savings for the past 5 years) i need to refocus on what im trying to do here. create a sustainable life created by building things on the internet and tapping into that internet money. this space has been absolutely incredible to me and i am very grateful to be a part of it! i have met some AMAZING people along the way- and i cannot ask for more. im not going anywhere- im staying here and trying to build a startup. but it will not be the local universe. i would like to try and keep it around as a passion project and nothing more, if possible. but for the time being i will be trying my hand in a different idea.

i love the idea of randomness- and not just what loot you pull but a TRULY random variation of the loot. showing a smaller example here but being able to collect dynamically generated items (from fish to clothing to home items) which are UNIQUE is pretty fun

gimme a few more weeks gentlemen- i got something for us. been spending alot of time thinking. we have something which can easily go viral and hook people but how do we increase retention? imo localuniverse needs a stronger TRIGGER- aka a moment when u remember that the app exists and to open and use it! ive got a strong thesis for how we solve this.. stay tuned ⚡️
