Arrived home to some wildly overgrown tomatoes after chairing the 2024 Crystal Engineering GRS. It was great to meet with old friends and new, and to discuss some amazing science! Shout out to @aicooper for organising the GRC (and for probably growing better tomatoes than me).
Best of luck to @YiXie_2022 and Ibrahim Tahir who will be co-chairing the 2026 GRS, very excited to see the programme in due course! Next time we might make it a bit further along the Appalachian Trail 🏔️🏔️🏔️

It is now available at ChemComm: pubs.rsc.org/en/Content/Arti… 🥳 big congrats to @CaitShields (and of course @tjfellowes , @aicooper, @AnnaGSlater , @KGAndrews_) 🥳
Some time ago @KGAndrews_ and I met at a conference and had a chat by his poster that it would be quite exciting to try and crystallise his cage in a number of different geometries with an automated liquid-liquid crystallisation setup:

Fingerprints of Chalcogen Bonding Revealed Through 77Se-NMR (Jonathan M. White and co-workers) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
One of my last PhD projects is out now in @ChemEurJ, in which I took a dive into the world of SSNMR. With the help of @MarcoSani51, we measured the chemical shielding tensor of a selenium atom as it participates in a chalcogen bond. doi.org/10.1002/chem.2024003…
Come along to the GRS as well! We are finalising the programme so get your abstracts in quick!

In the lab, Caitlin and @tjfellowes (working with @AnnaGSlater and @aicooper), managed to identify all five different structures, giving access to a wide range of acid-acid distances across the binding cavity.
Come along to this exciting meeting, and of course the associated GRS! Full program for the GRS will be posted soon…

My small teaching project is done. 📽️ A series of videos about crystal structure refinement!
I struggled a lot when I was learning it myself and couldn't find resources that would describe/show it sufficiently, therefore decided to take care of it. (1/5) youtube.com/@WojtekStawski/v…
Italians, look away! @tjfellowes and I made a Christmas pizza!
