#ItsCrazyHow I didn't know that @soopaflydpgc played keys on "Big Pimpin"
Death Row’s sound was NEVER just @drdre pressing play as many have believed.😤
On the new #BackTrak, @DAZDILLINGER breaks down the collaborative machinery behind the classics — Daz, @SnoopDogg, The D.O.C., RBX, @kurupt_gotti, Jewell and others shaping records alongside Dre, with live musicians bringing another dimension to the sound.
And the Detroit connection runs deep 👀: Tony “T. Money” Green, longtime bassist with The Dramatics, helped bring that Detroit/Motown DNA into @deathrowrecords’s world — including the connection between Snoop, @The1LJReynolds & The Dramatics on “Doggy Dogg World,” with Richard “Dimples” Fields’ influence running through the record.

Three types of hi-hats. A Moog for that bass that hits, and panning learned straight from the west coast legend himself, @drdre. @DAZDILLINGER walks through his entire production process on his own episode of #BackTrak‼️@DAZDILLINGER explains how he uses drums, keys, bass, and the feel-first philosophy that decides when a track is actually done, and tests out the mix & overall song composition on a speaker built to sound like a car radio.

Two years after their first crossing paths, @skillzva finally connected with Magoo, @Timbaland, and @MissyElliott, and by 2001, he was in the studio with Tim and touring as Missy’s hype man. He credits Magoo, who insisted on the collaboration after seeing Skillz on TV repping Virginia at a time when most VA artists didn’t believe they had a shot.
That studio energy produced song after song, and along the way, he met @Pharrell and @ChadHugo before the world knew them as The Neptunes.

How does a song written for Tupac end up becoming a T.I. hit? 🎹 @DAZDILLINGER tells the story on a new episode of #BackTrak, how Shorty B’s bassline, @Tip’s hook, and the “gangster sound” Daz built his whole career on, inspired by George Clinton and the tension of Boyz n the Hood. His philosophy: aggressiveness, hard 808s, and music that stays serious no matter how hard he tries to make it happy.

I
Two of the most important albums in hip-hop history, and @DAZDILLINGER says he was never properly paid for either one.
On the new episode of #BackTrak, he opens up to host @DonCannon about the missing paperwork behind @drdre’s ‘The Chronic’ and @SnoopDogg’s ‘Doggystyle’, and what he’s doing now to take control of his own work, including remastering it and redesigning the artwork himself.

“Hold out and learn publishing.” That’s @DAZDILLINGER’s advice for every artist on the new #BackTrak — because once you understand your catalog, you see your value before anyone else does.
@DAZDILLINGER’s own catalog has already been licensed for Grand Theft Auto, and he wants every artist to get there their own way: audit what you own, protect your royalties from companies looking to take more than their cut, and treat your music like property you build and manage over time.

How do you develop an ear that can spot a sample before the beat even drops? 🎶🤔💭
@DaveEast grew up on Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, The Spinners, The Four Tops, and The Temptations — his mom’s soundtrack for doing chores around the house. Rap came later, through @SnoopDogg’s ‘Doggystyle’, and @drdre’s ‘The Chronic’, and Ron G mixtapes. But that early R&B foundation gave him an advanced ear — the second a sample hits in a rap song, he already knows the original.

Before the turntables, there was a Thriller vinyl — @DonCannon’s uncle, a legendary Philly DJ, put it in his hands at age 2. By 5, he was DJing his first wedding. From 6 to 10, he was making beats on a tape deck and karaoke machine, rapping over his own tracks.
On the Atlantic City boardwalk in the 80s, he skipped the covers and performed original music instead. First mixtape? Age 11. He even played ball alongside Kobe Bryant and Russell Butler, but he always knew he was meant to be the soundtrack, not the athlete.
