Absolutely nobody asked for this, but this is a fun little breakdown of what went through my head as I faced Shohei Ohtani in the WBC My main thought was ā€œIf he hits a home run, he’s supposed to. He’s the best… but if you get him out, that’s a fun memory to have foreverā€ 😊

These are the first players that come to mind when I think of the Brewers and Rays

Team that has won three of the last six World Series doesn’t play winning baseball. That’ll do me. If you win baseball games, you play winning baseball.
BASEBALL MIGHT BE GETTING THE WORLD SERIES IT NEEDS MOST! At a time when analytics have practically taken over the game and a potential lockout is looming, the Rays and Brewers might be reminding baseball of something we’ve forgotten. HOW TO ACTUALLY PLAY WINNING BASEBALL! Pitching. Defense. Speed. Contact. Smart baserunning. Timely power. EXECUTION! Forget chasing superstars just because they’re superstars. GO FIND SUPERSTARS WHO KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME! Two organizations proving that sometimes the best way forward is BACK TO BASICS! Maybe this World Series is bigger than a championship. Maybe it’s a reminder of what baseball has been missing. And for once, I genuinely have NO IDEA who I’m picking! Rays fans, Brewers fans… SELL ME ON YOUR SQUAD! Convince me why YOUR team wins it all. BEST ARGUMENT GETS MY PICK!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Rays and Brewers are among baseball's most analytics-driven organizations, using data and tech to identify edges like contact, speed, and small-ball tactics rather than representing a "back to basics" rejection of analytics. nytimes.com/athletic/76843… wsj.com/sports/basebal… mlb.com/news/explainin… outkick.com/sports/milwauk…

Ridiculous sequence of events: - man says ā€œrelease the Epstein filesā€. Totally reasonable thing to ask for - gets escorted out - crowd chants ā€œUSAā€ for some reason while holding up signs ā€œDefend our futureā€? - Vance assumes he’s in the US illegally

Unbelievable analysis. Turns out all you need to win baseball games is to do most things required to play baseball really well āœ… - Good pitching āœ… - Good defence āœ… - Great base running āœ… - A little power

Damn, so 10 years ago, when the radar said my fastball was 97mph, I was actually throwing 100mph?! But four years ago when I hit 97mph, it was actually only 94mph. That sucks.
The radar gun readings are a bit hot….. Henriquez’s fastball doesn’t look 101-103 mph. Looks like higher 90s I hate that today’s fans just can’t see or understand that the radar reading is 3 or more mph faster than 10-15 years ago. When I played we understood that the older guns were slower. Why can’t this generation? #thisismycrew #dodgers #nlcs

We understand this is a choice, so no one is asking for sympathy but it doesn’t negate the fact athletes give up a lot to pursue their sport I’ve missed weddings, birthdays, family gatherings. My partner is a pro athlete, we spend half the year apart.
I always read this about pro athletes. What have they sacrificed that is so great? They had to miss a few parties in college? I’d argue the guys working 12-14 hours a day in physical jobs are sacrificing way more & they don’t get the dream life at the end of it…

MLB haven’t had any investment or funding into the ABL since 2016 or so. They also stopped funding the MLB Australian Academy around that time which was a 4-8 week development camp for 15-18 year olds. So just factually incorrect to say MLB invest into Australian baseball.

Only recently, the top 30 players on the Team Aus roster receive Government funding to aid in their training and to supplement their income when they need to travel for ABL/Premier 12/WBC We also only make a modest salary during the ABL We do a lot with just a little down here

I mean, our starting pitcher against Japan at the WBC is a full time boiler maker, and he kept them scoreless for 3IP. We lost that game 4-3. Australia is worth investing in.

Dudes from the 90’s would look at this and say ā€œI wouldn’t even need to take the slider cause I would have hit that 102mph… well actually it was only 92mph because they read it out of the hand… But anyways, I would have hit that fastball for a really good bloop singleā€
A look at Jackson Chourio's Slider Take. šŸ‘€ 102 mph Fastball (Down the Middle/Swinging Strike) and 89mph Slider (Ball), Individual Pitches + Overlay

Does it count if the velo was recorded out of the hand instead of at the plate like it was 30yrs ago? Cause this probably happened back in 90’s a ton according to the guys who played in that era
In the Braves-Dodgers game tonight, 5 different pitchers threw 100.0+ mph: Edgardo Henriquez (103), Roki Sasaki (102.1), Robert Suarez (101.4), Didier Fuentez (101.2) & Edwin DĆaz (100.8) That is the first time 5 pitchers have been recorded as throwing 100+ mph in one game.

He’s obviously a great hitter But why do they act like hitting a ball moving faster isn’t harder to hit I can hit a ball at 80mph. I cannot do it at 100mph. One is easier than the other. And the reason I can’t hit 100mph isn’t because my bat isn’t on plane with the ball

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Knights had 22,000 people at their stadium watching the game and I don’t think we had a single live cross to them
