Australia’s total trade deficit in forest and wood products is now over $7 billion, while we have the 7th largest forest area of any country globally. Another fine example of many as to why our economy is tanking.

If the Federal Govt can't even control feral rabbits around our key cultural institutions like the National Library in Canberra what hope do we have that it can do the job elsewhere?

So the latest inflation data just dropped from ABS. A sizzling 4%. And the fastest-rising sub-group in the fastest rising group is Electricity at 13.2%. This is, of course, the unwinding of rebates that were used to conceal the underlying growth in costs earlier.

Diesel could top $4 and rationing possible if US goes ahead with export ban, analyst warns... Even worse than actually learning from the disaster of trading relatively short financial benefits for significant structural risk the @AlboMP Gov't is actively sacrificing sovereign capability (particularly food production) on the altar of ideological insanity. 😳 abc.net.au/news/2026-09-24/d…

'Departments averaged 2.1 operational staff (APS 1 - 6) for every EL manager, roughly 47 managers per 100 staff. At NIAA, the ratio stood at more than one manager per staff member.'
More than 50 senior managers have departed the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) following a voluntary redundancy round aimed at rebalancing a workforce that has grown to have more managers than operational staff. canberratimes.com.au/story/9…

Shocking testimony – including from the family of detained 20-year-old twins Taraneh and Romina Rahimi and former political prisoner Sepideh Gholian – shows that sexual violence in the Islamic Republic’s prisons and detention centres is not a series of isolated 'violations', but a systematic weapon used to break detainees, extract confessions and silence witnesses. Jeremy has weighed in on the recent attempt to cancel Ed Sheeran after the Macklemore controversy. In this week’s column in The Sun, he wrote the following: "He literally said nothing at all and, for that, his fans are trying to offload tickets for his forthcoming tour, his support acts have all walked and, from what I hear, even his band is refusing to play with him. ‘They want him to sound off on Palestine, and because he’s not really that sort of person, the keyboard warriors have sent him to Coventry." "How can you protest about Ed when you don’t know what he thinks? Because he hasn’t told us." What are your thoughts on the matter?

This story is about changing structure of rural Australia. Advanced food manufacturer @SunRiceFoods used to be the largest employer in Deniliquin but now it's the care economy. The fundamental question is HOW do we pay for the care economy services when we keep losing productive industries like primary production & secondary manufacturing? abc.net.au/news/2026-09-19/c…

This whole Macklemore situation is so spiritually Palestinian. Ed Sheeran became one of the biggest musicians in the world by writing good music, he built an audience, and people spend hundreds of dollars to come hear his music. Macklemore gets invited onto that stage and decides to hijack Ed Sheeran’s concert for his political rally. Ed built the stage and brought the audience, and Macklemore decided he was entitled to commandeer it for his demented cause. And when Ed Sheeran tells him this is a concert, not a political rally, and he doesn’t want to take sides, he becomes the villain. This is Palestinianism. You build nothing. You bite the hand that feeds you. You leech onto things other people built and destroy them. These parasites have hijacked every institution, every cultural event, everything other people built, and feel entitled to selfishly destroy it for their tribal clan politics.

Absolute bombshell here on Eraring... The NSW Government was asked specifically why they put the 2029 deadline in the contract with Origin for closure. And they admit it! Plain as day! "Undermining the plan undermines the ability to deliver it" They're sheltering Matt Kean's 'Roadmap', because they want bipartisan energy policy. Firstly, they should explain why that logic didn't apply to the time they first extended Eraring when they won office. Matt Kean had committed so hard to the 2025 closure he wasted over a billion dollars on the Waratah Super Battery, in the vain hope that would close the gap from 2025-2030. But what's worse is that it means this government is completely blinkered to reality... deeply committed to the sunk-cost fallacy... managing public perceptions of reality in the vain hope that reality will somehow close with the most naive, head-in-sand, ideologically driven positions on energy. What we need now is for @honmattkean to come out with a heroic, redeeming "when the facts change, I change my mind... what do you do sir?" kind of moment. Expose how ridiculous it is for the Labor government to be embarrassing themselves to defend his mistaken legacy.
Look at this appalling obfuscation around when and why Eraring will close. When facing direct questions about whether the NSW government wants the coal fired power station Eraring to close in 2029, they obfuscate... "owned by a private company Origin... which has committed to closing 2029". Has Origin raised an extension? "Oh we talk about the agreement we have..." What does that agreement include? A binding requirement to close the plant in 2029. So there is absolute certainty that the NSW government intends to have Origin close Eraring in 2029. It isn't a private decision at all, the government wrote the permanent 2029 closure date into their agreement about an extension from 2025-2027. That is government-imposed curtains. So it is perfectly likely that if Origin is discussing that agreement with the government, they could be discussing a new agreement that removes the forced closure date. This is the communication of the NSW Labor Government.

Meanwhile in just another day in AI, @AnthropicAI's alignment science lead believes there's a greater than one in 10 chance that AI extinguishes humanity within a decade. What floors me is the disparity between our dismissal of these views & the enormous confidence we put... 1/
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

Memo to those claiming that supporting freedom for Palestinians means supporting Hamas and armed resistance. Maybe its time to listen to actual Palestinians, living in Palestine. And it's absolutely time to give Palestinians more political options beyond the old Hamas-Fatah paradigm.
