was attached to the work i did here over more than a decade. it was hard to lose the community on tumblr. it has been a different kind of difficult to lose what was here, which was never for me a community as much as a place for living and enlivening ideas within enabling limits.
it’s time to leave that now. the loss has been less by assault than by attrition. slow deaths don’t open so easily onto mourning. the internet liberated us from face to face relations but it keeps promising different collectivities that turn out to have been wildly ephemeral.

my only commentary about the #luthervandross documentary is this:
the closet is a prison. the closet is not a natural orientation in the world, it is not something that occurs in nature of necessity, it is not a disposition that exists without context, no.
in many universities, there's a full-on assault on (trans)gender, race, ethnic
& sexuality studies. in many cases, austerity is being leveraged to discipline these fields out of existence.
the department i have been affiliated with for the last two decades is not one of them 1/x
for now, i want at least to leave the above as a placeholder.
we are going to have to fight for our existence in the university in coming years. i just want to discourage others from using our case to exemplify the attack on the university.
it isn't. it's toxic. but not that.
