Odd that just looking at this little fur shape should bring such inner contentment. Cats have really nailed this haven’t they?

There are certain days in history that change everything. 28 June, 1916 was one of those. In the early hours of that day my Great, Great Uncle Thomas Wilson clambered from his trench in front of Hairpin Craters, not far from Hulluch, as part of a raid on the German lines. 1/ #ww1

Language is the essence of understanding our decisions. ‘Assisted dying’ is the service currently provided by palliative care, mostly provided by underfunded hospices, supported not by state but by charitable donations. Assisted suicide, state sanctioned killing is different.

5 Apr 1968. F/L Al Pollock flies Hunter under Tower Bridge in protest at lack of celebration of 50th anniversary of formation of RAF. He also “visited” Houses of Parliament and several airfields including USAF. Arrested on landing!

Janet McCallum was a mill worker & suffragette jailed for storming Westminster. Like most working class suffragettes, her sacrifice has gone unrecognised. Now some Fife schoolgirls are campaigning to change that. My news feature for @heraldscotland heraldscotland.com/news/2502…

Art deco heaven at Dundee’s new music venue, in a restored 1930s cinema. More neon to be switched on soon in the tower and pillars.

Edinburgh has a statue deficit. With 79 statues of men, 15 of animals, and only 8 of women, it's time for change - could this statue be the start? A planning application (25/01053/FUL) has been submitted to honor Dr. Elsie Inglis with a statue on the iconic Royal Mile, opposite her commemorative plaque at 219 High Street. Renowned sculptor Alexander Stoddart proposes placing this tribute near New Assembly Close. Who was Dr. Elsie Inglis? A trailblazing Scottish doctor, suffragist, and founder of the Scottish Women's Hospitals, she revolutionized medical care for women and led heroic medical units during WWI, saving lives in Serbia and Russia. Her pioneering spirit and dedication left an indelible mark on women's medical history. 💜 Elsie Inglis received one of the most extraordinary public tributes in Edinburgh's history. After her passing on 26 November 1917, her body lay in state at St Giles Cathedral, where her funeral was attended by British and Serbian royalty. The service included the 'Hallelujah Chorus' and the Last Post played by Royal Scots buglers. Crowds lined the streets as her coffin made its way through the city to Dean Cemetery. The Scotsman newspaper described it as an "occasion of an impressive public tribute," and Winston Churchill himself said of Inglis and her nurses, "they will shine in history." 📢She needs a visible legacy in Edinburgh! Could this monument be a step toward redressing the balance? Details of the application, and the option to comment, can be found here: citydev-portal.edinburgh.gov…
