Day No. 12,931 at the Trib for me. That countdown ends. Thanks to an early retirement package, my days as a full-time employee are over. I’ll still be providing occasional Steelers coverage. The paychecks will just be coming a different way. So this is -30- but only temporarily.
Fact about Donnie Iris that might sound unusual but speaks to the height of his popularity in the 1980s. In ‘85, he headlined a summer show at the old Syria Mosque in Oakland.
The opening act for that gig? An up-and-coming band named Bon Jovi.
Saw Donnie Iris probably 7-8 times and his music never got stale. Was fortunate to catch him 2024 in Greensburg. Although we never met, I felt like he was a friend. Seemed like such a genuine guy. He will be missed.
That was a fun comeback to watch. Don’t miss having to articulate everything that changed in the last two quarters while on deadline.
Sal Frelick, son of South Greensburg/Hufftown legend Jeff Frelick, is going to the World Series. Jeff and I were baseball teammates back in the day. Congrats to him and Sal!

Steelers loading up on offense during intros. Four WRs and two TEs get the call to run out of the tunnel. Not sure they are allowed that many on the field!
Steelers Hall of Honor inductees are joined by team president Art Rooney II. Inductees are Kevin Colbert, J.T. Thomas and Faith Wolfley, representing her late husband, Craig.
Happy AFL Grand Final day to those who celebrate! And if you don’t, it’s about time you do.
