I'm grateful and honoured that Glia is one of the organizations supported by this tour. We have been admiring @Macklemore's principled activism for years, and are excited to see this tour succeed. ♥️

What happened to me is bigger than one artist or one stage. When the billionaire class can decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear, everyone should be paying attention.
So we're going on tour. All proceeds will benefit organizations supporting the Palestinian people and movement.

I worked with @justinpodur on setting up his PeerTube instance, and many people asked about how they can make their own. This is especially acute with the recent ban on @UrOrientalist 's YouTube channel. For the hardcore nerds who want details, here's a 🧵
I've been set up with a Peer Tube in anticipation of YouTube eventually taking me down. Everything is backed up there.

With all of that, setup was step 1. Step 2 was importing all of Justin's old videos, which we used a custom script for: github.com/tareko/peertube-i… . Feel free to use it if you'd like.

I just got around to reading this, @KavitaAlgu. I am so sorry that you, Dallas and your family had to endure this. What @SinaiHealth put you through is atrocious—and painfully familiar. You deserved solidarity then, and you have mine completely now.
You gave Mount Sinai nearly a decade of palliative-care work, led anti-racism initiatives and helped secure funding for Indigenous patients. Then you spoke publicly for Palestine.
You and two colleagues were hauled into a meeting over your off-duty advocacy and told there was no formal complaint, no identified policy breach and nothing you needed to do differently. Yet reprisals allegedly followed, and an assessment supposedly not intended to make findings against individuals somehow singled you out as having a “disproportionately negative impact.”
Based on what? Unnamed colleagues’ perceptions. No specific offending post. No concrete misconduct. No fair notice that your conduct was even under investigation before damaging conclusions were delivered.
Meanwhile, @BermanPCMD publicly posted your name, face and words while calling you part of a “loud racist minority.” Mount Sinai hospital decided his direct attack on a colleague was outside the workplace—but treated your general advocacy as workplace conduct, invoked “safety” and “professionalism,” and threatened consequences that could affect your practice and ability to work in the health system.
That is not a misunderstanding. It is a breathtaking double standard and an institutional ambush.
You did not casually “quit.” You were pushed to the point of surrendering a specialty you had spent years building. That is the story.
And @JesseBrown, spare us.
Whether you approve of every political position Dr. Aglu has ever taken is irrelevant. Her politics do not create the missing complaint, identify the policy she breached, supply the evidence absent from the assessment or explain why Berman’s targeted attack was deemed external while her advocacy was weaponized against her.
Due process is not a prize institutions reserve for people whose politics Jesse Brown finds respectable.
Nor did @ShreeParadkar “omit” Kavita’s resignation. The article states repeatedly that she resigned and reports, in detail, what drove her there. Jesse’s contribution is to strip away the threats, opacity and double standard, point at the exit and announce that she walked through it herself.
This is also the same Jesse Brown who previously published an HonestReporting Canada-style hit piece on Shree, built substantially around accusations from unnamed Toronto Star colleagues. Those sources were protected from scrutiny while Shree was made the story.
And there was relevant context readers were not given: Jesse’s cousin, Emma Teitel, worked as a Star columnist at the time. That does not prove she was a source, and I am not alleging she was. But when you use anonymous insiders from a newsroom where your own cousin works to damage another journalist in that newsroom, the family connection is obviously something readers deserved to know.
Who were the unnamed colleagues? Was Emma involved in any way? Was Brown’s connection disclosed? We still do not know—because the accusers were hidden while the racialized woman challenging power was placed on trial.
Now Shree has produced a careful investigation grounded in records, emails, meeting notes and interviews. Jesse answers none of it. He simply helps perform the very manoeuvre her reporting exposes: replace evidence with insinuation, put the dissenter’s politics on trial and recast the woman targeted by an institution as the real problem.
Shree did the reporting.
Jesse brought another smear.
Full solidarity with you, Kavita—and with @DallasDuncanMD and your family. You should never have been made to pay this price for refusing to look away.

In Canada, you can freely criticize a Prime Minister, Premier, or Mayor. But criticize Netanyahu, and you will pay a cost.
For three years, people have lost jobs, leases, and careers for speaking out against Israel and Netanyahu's government.
When a respected Canadian doctor can be pushed out of a public hospital for standing up for human rights, every Canadian should be concerned.
This is not just about Palestine. It's about freedom of expression in Canada.
Premier Doug Ford should hold the leadership of Mount Sinai Hospital accountable for allowing this to happen.
If we stay silent, we are putting the future of our country and our freedoms at risk.
🧵 on someone I admire immensely, the brilliant @KavitaAlguMD , and the systemic Anti-Palestinian racism that is prevalent in institutions like @SinaiHealth
Background:
October 2023, I was suspended from my physician job, after calling out dehumanizing and debunked Anti-Palestinian racism. I'd identified 🇮🇱 war crimes and genhocide.
My criticism of 🇮🇱 was accurate, and supported by multiple human rights organizations including @hrw @amnesty @UN @btselem , but that didn't stop claims I was an antisemite for criticizing a nation state committing genhocide.

Top story in Canada "Doctor leaves (Toronto) Mount Sinai after BASELESS professionalism complaint."
Let this be a lesson to all organizations and institutions.
Your Anti-Palestinian racism will be exposed.
When you are more loyal to those committing or supporting genocide, not only will you lose great people like Doctor Algu, but you will go down in history as part of the genocide enabling apparatus
@SinaiHealth @TorontoSRI
An important and sobering read by @KavitaAlguMD
🚨@TorontoStar investigation by @ShreeParadkar into alleged discrimination at @SinaiHealth🚨
In early 2024 I made a complaint about experiencing anti-Palestinian racism in my then workplace. Sinai hired Osler to investigate my APR concerns. The investigation was conducted by an investigator from Shearer Parnega.
The process that was seemingly triggered by multiple anti-Palestinian racism complaints ultimately resulted in Sinai bringing a highest level professionalism complaint against me.
I felt I was not provided any concrete examples of anything I did wrong.
The Star article notes:
“The documents the Star reviewed contained no examples in support of the [investigation’s] findings. Sinai Health did not offer any details when asked about the specific concerns related to Algu.”
This appeared to be in stark contrast with how pro-Israeli physicians were treated. My experiences of anti-Palestinian racism resulted in me walking away from my almost 10 year job as a palliative care physician – a profession that I loved – not knowing if I would get to have a substantial palliative medicine practice again.
Almost 3 years into this genocide, and ongoing industrialized Israeli attacks on Palestinian health and life, many medical institutions encourage alignment with Zionism through silencing of their staff.
Many also maintain partnerships, research programs and investments with groups who materially contribute to the Israeli crimes of occupation, apartheid, and genocide – all while our Palestinian health worker colleagues are targeted, killed, kidnapped, and tortured just for being health workers fighting to provide life to their people.
This has been described as the “genocide enabling apparatus”.
Of course the silencing that we suffer is very minor in comparison with the crimes committed against our Palestinian colleagues and their patients, but we must talk about it with clarity. Every time we shine a light on these mechanisms, their power diminishes.
To health workers in Canada, I encourage you to speak out, take material actions, stand in solidarity with your Palestinian colleagues; and keep throwing stones into the gears of the genocide that our very own institutions are enabling. We are one global profession of healers.
Free, free Palestine – from the river to the sea.

🚨⚡️Newsflash: Protesting with ketchup is still not criminal in Canada and London police are bullies. Crown office takes 16 months, spanking by judge before they figure it out. Genocide and supporting it still is a crime, though, in case any of them are looking for honest work...

Like many humanitarians, I've been confused and disappointed that @MSF chose to release names of Palestine staff to Israeli military authorities.
A brief explanation of relation to medical ethics and the therapeutic misconception
When researchers study marginalized populations In conflict (eg Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine) the informed consent process must have an extra level of care. It is often difficult for potential research participants to differentiate participation in research, from receipt of aid- those who think they need food or water or health care or shelter aid may think that participation in research is compulsory to receive those items. Researchers are required to be extra cautious to differentiate the research and aid goals. This conflict is called " therapeutic misconception."
Getting back to Gaza @MSF staff - similarly, this group of people, like everyone in Gaza , is now being asked by @MSF staff if they are ok with their names being given to authorities of the country that has already killed record numbers of humanitarian workers since October 2023, including murder of Omar Hayek and at least 14 other @MSF Gaza staff.
Two major ethical problems with this request :
1. The local Gaza @MSF staff relies on @MSF to Feed, cloth, shelter their families. They almost certainly CANT differentiate between the request to be identified (and risk being targeted by Israel) versus giving up the literal means to live (food, water, shelter)
2. The commitment for people on Gaza to serve their community members brothers is such an integral part of Palestinian society as to be essentially inseparable. It would be like asking a parent to choose his or her life over the life of their newborn child - an impossible choice and one that one can't be expected to answer without an abundance of feeling coerced.
There are other choices that @MSF could have made
1. Don't give the names to Israel. Work with other NGO/charities/governments to collectively advocate governments/UN/WHO to remove a country committing genocide from being involved at all (to a certain extent this has been done , but not with collective international cooperation as expected/hoped)
2. Promise local staff that their salaries (and ability to feed, cloth and shelter families) won't be in any way impaired (keep paying them) and promise not to ever compromise their safety as egregiously as giving a country that is targeting humanitarian their names.
Confusing in all this is that msf itself has described the therapeutic conception as part of their own research ethics board- I summarized this in 2024with the brilliant Courtland Robinson and Sujay Mehta
