People are dying in a war no one is fighting. The weapon is CO₂. Today’s emissions lock in about 1 future death every 2 seconds (estimate) — World War II’s toll in under 5 years. But it can still change. 1/ 🧵
People are dying in a war no one is fighting. No gunfire, no bombs — just CO₂. The deaths today’s global emissions lock in for the future: ・about 1 every 2 seconds ・about 17 million a year (estimate) ・matching World War II’s toll in under 5 years But it can still change. Cut emissions 7% a year (roughly a 2 °C path) and about 220 million lives are saved by 2050. I built a site to see it, try it, and bring it down to your own day. 🔗 tamorist.github.io/slow-war/ ● A live counter, compared with history’s wars ● A simulator you can change yourself ● Your day, multiplied by everyone on Earth ● Beyond carbon: food, forests, water and the Amazon ● Every number sourced Not to blame anyone — to see what can change. 📝 Full story: ttmori.substack.com/p/the-wa…

1. THIS IS NOT THE 2008 CRISIS. The delusion of post-modernism is the delusion of humanism. That the world is only the human world. That there is nothing outside our control - the sovereignty of human subjectivity. Nature is seen as merely an extension of this monstrous ego. Nature is not an extension of us - it is us that are subject to Nature. 2008 was in the human realm. "Money" is a function of human psychology. We can change "money" and sort things out - till next time. When the insurance industry collapses - and it will - we will not be able to fix "the problem" because the problem is Nature - physics is independent of human control. We fucked it. We cannot unfuck it. And Nature does not give a fuck. This is so basic only an elite so utterly cut off from what it means to live a human life would be unable to see it. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Serbian students overthrowing Vučić is an extraordinary achievement. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and 2 months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

US Big Tech corporations are spending a staggering $1 trillion this year, or 3% of GDP, on AI capital expenditure (capex), largely for data centers. China's tech companies are spending $123 billion on AI apex, which is just 0.6% of GDP. But China's AI models perform just as well as US models -- and China's are open-source and much cheaper, and are thus becoming more popular around the world. Keep in mind that China has 4 times the US population, but is spending 1/10th of what the US is spending on AI capex. It is obvious that US AI capex is way, way too high, and represents extreme malinvestment. This is because the US AI sector is in an enormous bubble.

This story is extremely important: A whistleblower revealed that Brazil's far-right Bolsonaro family dynasty met with Meta to discuss US plans to interfere in Brazil's election, to prevent Lula from winning. Lula's Facebook and Instagram accounts were censored a few days before the first round of the presidential election. This had a huge impact on the election, because Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which are all owned by Meta, are the most popular apps in Brazil, and are hugely influential all across Latin America. (Jair Bolsonaro's son Flávio was declared the winner of the first round of the vote, by a narrow margin.) Meta later admitted that Lula's accounts had been restricted, but it claimed that this was supposedly due to a "technical error"... The whistleblower who disclosed this is Nadia Beller, a Bolivian journalist who was almost killed by hitmen hired by Fernando Cerimedo, a far-right Argentine political operative who oversees election interference, bots, and disinformation campaigns. Cerimedo is closely linked to the US government and has worked for pretty much every right-wing leader in Latin America. He was photographed with Donald Trump Jr. and members of the Bolsonaro family, and he received an award at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida a few months before he was arrested for the failed assassination attempt against Beller, his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

. Public education spending per young person varies dramatically across regions In 2025, average public education expenditure per school-age individual (0–24) ranged from €220 in Sub-Saharan Africa to €9,025 in North America and Oceania (in 2025 PPP euros), a gap of almost 1 to 41. Europe spent €7,433, East Asia €2,941, and Latin America €1,823. The world average stood at €1,642. Using market exchange rates instead of purchasing power parity would make these gaps even larger. The language of science is too complex; it fails to reach the general public. There will be no solution unless citizens themselves change—relying on the elite to change will not suffice. Climate change is a "slow war." 👇 I have created a website that allows people to intuitively grasp the scale of this threat: xitter.cf/ttmori/status/21125341…
Seven years ago, some top climatologists stood up to explain the situation was far worse that the mainstream ones were admitting. Why would you be taking advice today from those who didn't call it back then? Seriously, why?

This is why the race to develop AI is bound to become inhumane. It is also why the statements and actions of those involved inevitably turn into propaganda. There is always a catch behind any enticing offer. You should approach everything with the assumption that there is a hidden agenda. (Liberation from work? No one is actually thinking about that.)
“For AI companies to make back the hundreds of billions their investors have entrusted them with, they will have to displace a “hell” of a lot of high-waged labor.” Cory Doctorow, 2026. Author of “The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Life After AI.”

Exactly. I believe we can set aside individual, isolated battles for now. If we don’t confront the root issue, we will run out of time. It might look like a step backward in the short term, but ultimately, there is no other path.
🚨 PLEASE READ THIS. I genuinely think we've sleepwalked into something that could change the world as we know it, and I'm increasingly worried about where we'll be in just a few years if we don't change course. Look at what's happening with Ukraine, and the reports of Elon Musk's Starlink restricting Ukraine's military capabilities, alongside Trump's willingness to ease sanctions on Russia while its invasion continues. These might seem like issues specific to the Russia and Ukraine War, but they expose two enormous problems: The growing power of unelected billionaires, and the failure of international institutions to hold those in power accountable. We're entering an age of technopolarity, where a handful of billionaires and their corporations, from Starlink to Palantir and AI, are gaining extraordinary power over national security and critical infrastructure, with little to no democratic oversight. What happens when their political interests or personal ambitions conflict with those of the countries depending on them? And then there's international law. Ukraine, Gaza, Iran, and beyond have shown us what happens when powerful states and their allies can disregard international law without facing meaningful consequences. International courts undermined. Arrest warrants challenged or ignored. UN resolutions disregarded. Leaving civilians killed and displaced on an unimaginable scale. What use is international law if enforcing it ultimately depends on the goodwill of those powerful enough to break it? Then look at how this has played out with climate change. For decades, Big Oil has used its wealth to influence governments, shape public debate and delay meaningful action. We know what's happening to our planet. We know what needs to be done. Yet political action remains nowhere near what the science demands. All of this comes back to the same fundamental problem. We've allowed wealth and corporate interests to accumulate vastly more influence over political decisions than ordinary people and the planet. Meanwhile, we're encouraged to turn on each other. Immigrants, refugees, disabled people, welfare recipients and minorities are repeatedly blamed for problems they didn't create. Populists exploit that anger, offering us someone to blame while the people and interests benefiting from the existing system escape scrutiny. We're fighting each other instead of questioning who actually holds the power. And the more divided we become, the easier we are to manipulate. It's a downward spiral, and I genuinely fear how much worse it could get. Everything I've described comes back to the same fundamental imbalance of power. 💰🏭 → 🏛️ → 🔥 > 👥🌍 → 🏛️ → 🌱✨ Right now, wealth and industry have far more influence over politics than people and planet. And as long as that remains the case, every effort to tackle climate change, uphold international law, protect democracy, build a fairer economy or deliver meaningful progress is swimming against an increasingly powerful tide. Simply... WE NEED TO FLIP THE FUCKING TIDE. Imagine what becomes possible when people and planet have more power over political decisions than concentrated wealth and corporate interests. Climate action driven by science rather than fossil fuel profits. Technology serving humanity rather than billionaires. An economy built around wellbeing instead of extraction. International law that applies to everyone, regardless of power. And politics that genuinely represents the people it's supposed to serve. This is the problem we need to solve. We can keep campaigning against individual injustices, but unless we address the imbalance of power behind so many of them, we'll be fighting the same battles for generations. Politics has to follow the people, not the money. And that won't happen unless we build the power to make it happen. They are so few. We are billions. It's about time we started acting like it.

This is the direct result of 200 years of technological determinism as religion. It's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of progress for progress's sake. Even the guys creating the nightmare are like, 'Yeah we are making monsters, you know—help—I still have to get up tomorrow to continue building the monster, because you know, what can you do, I'm not a reactionary or crazy shit like that, we are doing what must be done, so, prepare guys, this is really bad, much worse than anybody thought, like, the end is near, you are fucked, we all are, kiss your children tonight, hold them tight, wait, I gotta go to work, we are adding a new arm to the monster, fuck, I'm late.'
