Legal expert Guled Dafac has urged the Political Parties and Associations Registration Committee to issue directives prohibiting #Somaliland's political parties from distributing financial assets and various forms of material aid to the public, warning that such practices damage democratic principles and electoral freedom.
The lawyer stated that party asset distribution can create a perception that citizen votes are being exchanged for financial gain or personal interests, rather than the public choosing between party manifestos, visions, and policies. He pointed out that in many democratic nations, such practices are prohibited or viewed as inconsistent with free election processes.
Additionally, the lawyer criticized political parties directly providing medical services, describing it as an act that violates democratic ethics and professional medical conduct.
He proposed that political parties wishing to contribute to charitable efforts should support legally registered non-profit organizations, rather than executing those activities directly.
Finally, the lawyer encouraged political parties to focus on their political duties, preparing effective policy programs and presenting strategic plans to earn public trust, instead of seeking political support through asset distribution and direct aid services.
