The Premier League isn't just strangling rugby league - it's killing other parts of soccer, too.
Bournemouth, with a stadium holding 11k in a city the size of Warrington, just beat AC Milan 3-0.
That's Bournemouth, who have never won a major trophy but happened to win promotion in the year that the biggest TV deal in history kicked in and thus get £170m before a single fan buys a ticket.
Bournemouth get 80% of their income from a TV deal they barely contribute to, and just 4% from their fans.
For reference, that's half of the *entire* NRL revenue, just from TV, and five times the value of the Brisbane Broncos.
That's AC Milan, the team of Maldini, Baresi, Kaka, van Basten, Rivera, Gullit and Rijkaard.
They get half what Bournemouth get from TV - despite being one of the biggest clubs in the world with an average home attendance of 60k fans.
Bournemouth beating Milan isn't a surprise. They were $2.10 (11/10) favourites before kick-off.
Now remember that there's 19 other Bournemouths in the UK, each competing for attention, and this is what Super League is up against every single week for media spend and oxygen.
The BBC shouldn't be driven by this - Lord Reith wants a word - but commercially, they are. They follow the clicks, and the money, like everyone else.
Rugby league suffers. So does the rest of football. So does cricket, rugby union and anything else you might suggest.

It’s very difficult for parents with kids of this age, particularly given the competition amongst clubs for signing kids in this age bracket … I get asked this question many times a year from parents thinking their son will be disadvantaged by not having a player manager or agent … They are told that without a manager, their son won’t get picked in rep teams, or won’t be a priority … Honestly, that’s rubbish … At Harold Matthews level, I can tell you it makes zero difference to us as a club, if a player has an agent or not …
Having said that, there are some very good managers around who can assist your son, particularly with families who are inexperienced in this space … Harold Matthews U/17s is really entry level to the world of professional football … I can tell you that only a very small percentage of these kids will go on to play at the NRL level … We are very honest with the boys about this fact … It’s great to be selected for these squads, but it doesn’t mean you are going to be a full-time professional footballer …
I tell kids they should enjoy what they are doing now at this age, because this may be the best team they ever play with … At this level we also make education a priority … It’s a No work, No study, No play philosophy … You are either in school, tertiary education, in a job or apprenticeship … Use this time and use your football club to prepare a Plan B for the future, because Rugby League may not answer all your dreams … That’s a reality … If you need assistance in finding a manager, just ask the recruitment manager at your nearest NRL club … They can assist you …
