We have the resources to sustain and grow real K-12 per-pupil funding. We just won't deploy them. #nced #ncpol #ncga medium.com/@twslart/the-real…

I also think it’s probably unconstitutional but at least stupid and definitely unpopular to let the shittiest busybody in your neighborhood pick what books a teenager can read. @ThePlumLineGS is right. The normal person backlash is underrated, underreported, and growing.

1. Goal of allocation formulas (state aid formulas or district allocation to schools) is to provide resources sufficient for all children to achieve common (ideally adequate) educational outcomes.
This was a terrific event! @wileynickel was detained by Congressional duties but joined via Zoom. @HuntforNC delivered a magnificent speech here in NC. Just a great time with fantastic, hardworking advocates. It’s never a bad time to support public schools or @PS1NC!
Join us for a conversation with Congressman @wileynickel and NC Senator @HuntforNC about the critical challenges facing our public schools and how we can all work together to keep public education strong.

The reason it’s important for teachers and legislators to internalize this fact is because the proposal is SO common yet perpetually a mathematical impossibility. Continuing to point to admin salaries as a plausible solution to teacher pay is a trust-eroding distraction.

Feeling inspired by @JustinParmenter’s work to identify the discriminatory practices of NC private schools receiving taxpayer $ via vouchers.
Let's look at how their policies discriminate against students on the basis of disability, shall we? #nced #ncga

Don’t know why the fuck anyone would listen to Thom “I cut public education by HALF A BILLION DOLLARS as NC House Speaker” Tillis when it comes to education funding.

Supply-side economics - slashing taxes, deregulation and weakening worker protections - never works. Republicans in #ncpol have made this their signature "achievement" in North Carolina, always promising big economic gains. But it's never materialized.

It turns out - not so well!
Far from out-performing, North Carolina's economy has mostly tracked the national average since 2011. We've even lagged behind many of our regional neighbors in that time - *especially* in real household income.

You can do a literature review until pigs fly, and you won’t find a study that doesn’t link good public education to good #economicdevelopment.
Good schools are only as good as the good teachers they recruit.
You can’t stay #4 in the country for attracting people from other states and #1 in business recruitment when you drop to #46 in teacher pay.

I can’t believe my beloved State is 46th in teacher pay.
My teachers were my heroes, my inspiration, my guides.

A 10-year-girl in Delaware picked up “It’s Perfectly Normal” while at the library with her mother. When they came home, she showed her mom the chapter on sexual abuse and said, “This is me.” She was being abused by her father, and it was the first time she’d spoken about it.

When we don't support and fund major services on the federal and state level, we seek local funds to keep them afloat. This causes inequities in our communities since our major revenue at that level is property taxes. #ncpol
