@ploeh, do you use TDD to make performance improvements? That is, if you want to make some production code use less time, do you always write a test that fails without that optimization?

At @forwardnetworks, we typically don't add such a test. Instead, in the body of the commit message, we include the reports from performance runs for a recent previous commit and the current commit.

If anyone happens to have an answer for me, I would really appreciate it. stackoverflow.com/q/70949986…
I have a question about footnote 8 on page 25 of Code That Fits in Your Head by @ploeh. I quote it next with some modification to shorten. 1/3

> In Visual Studio, the warnings-as-errors setting is associated with a build configuration [, such as Debug or Release mode]. If you want to change this setting for both configurations, you have to remember to do it twice. 2/3

That is not my understanding. I think it is possible to treat warnings as errors for all configurations with a single line of code. I created a demo that does this. Am I misunderstanding something? 3/3 github.com/TysonMN/WarningsA…

> I chose to name the interface [IReservationRepository] after the Repository pattern. I did that because most people are familiar with the name and understand that it models data access in some way. ~ 4.3.6 in Code That Fits in Your Head by @ploeh (with omissions by me) 1/2

At @FwdNetworks, we would name this ReservationDao. There is no "I" prefix because we use Java, which doesn't follow this convention like .NET, and "Dao" stands for "data access object". 2/2
Java has a type called File with an instance method called isFile... and it is not even a verbose way of representing the boolean true *facepalm* docs.oracle.com/javase/7/doc…()

A question from @tyson_mn triggered a response that's almost an entire blog post in itself. You can regard it as bonus content for this week. Learn about invariant functors here: blog.ploeh.dk/2020/10/19/mon…

After nearly six years of employment, today is my last day at Blocher Consulting. It was an excellent place to work, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I was welcomed when I finished school, and great coworkers became great friends. (1/2)
